    Hey.

How to add usb 3.0 port into old laptop?

    Is it possible?

Right now my old laptop only has 2.0 ports.....is there like a converter or something to usb 3.0?

    Thanks.

do you have an expresscard or pcmcia card slot?

and, why do you want/need to have usb v3 on an old' laptop?

If you have expresscard slot then this is possible. If no than no. There is lot of usb 3.0 expresscard adapters, but they do not work with pcmcia-expressadapters. pcmcia-expressadapters only usb hub. There is no PCI line -> PCI-E line convertion.

As i know there is no pcmcia usb 3.0 adapters.

The only way to get USB3 speeds is through PCI-E and that means Expresscard.

You might find an adapter or series of adapters to go through another interface (USB3 to Expresscard to pcmcia for example), but it's only a connection adapter (I.E. your connector will fit, but you will get 2.0 speeds still).

I think that most or 100% pcmcia adapters to the expresscard in side have chip like USB 2.0 hub connected to PCI bus. Express card have three type of connectors in body: pci-e, usb 2.0, power. Usb lines from express card connected to the chip in adapter. Chip of Expresscard USB 3.0 use only PCI-E, so this do not work at all.

Motherboards use PCI-e 1x bus -> PCI bus adapters for installing old PCI cards. But i dont see chips and solutions for another direction.
