So i got a new laptop last week.
But didnt have any blank dvds.
So i used it for a week, installed programs and such.

Now I want to make back up of discs.
But the space needed has grown to over 40gb, when it was originally 20gb.
It wants to back up the entire C: drive.
But i only want to back up the back up, if that makes any sense.

Is there a way to back up only just the fresh-start-backup?

I don't know how to do what I think you are describing, but I believe Windows Restore works excellent. Also, I recommend Windows 7 if you are not currently using it. It has worked great on every laptop I have installed it on and you can get the RC for free until next summer.

Unless you have a special tool that came with the computer (like Lenovo and others do for making recovery disks) there's not a way to do this.
If you wanted you could use a program like Acronis to make an image of the system, and Acronis even allows you to select and deselect certain files/folders - so you could pick and choose what you want to backup for future imaging.
