Hi, I'll be needing a new notebook for college. I done some research and I think the Asus Z71V suits my need. This is the hard part, I'll need a to buy a CPU, Hard Drive and ram( did I miss anything?).
For the CPU, I'll take the PM 730 unless the price to a 740 is small...
For the hard drive, I dont know which brand so I would like recommendation but I need a 40G with 5200RPM. I thought about getting a 7200 but I'm concern about the heat so not quite sure here.
As for the ram, is it DDR2 or DDR? Again which brand should I look for?
That's all for now...
Any suggestion are welcome. Thanks

Hey!
If you are really penny squeezing, you can always do the 400fsb -> 533fsb overclock with the z71v, its as easy as a flick of a switch.
For the Hard Drive, everyone has their opinions, so it's hard to choose.
The ram is PC4200 DDR2 533mhz SoDimm(200 pin? Don't recall..) -
In my previous notebooks my 7200 did not run any hotter than my stock 5400...and i agree with coriolis a 725 would be the ideal and safe candidate...a 735 may be pushing it but has been done. Getting a 770 for the price of a 725...gotta love that.

Hmm that switch thing sounds like a cool idea, but aren't there any drawbacks to it? I mean, how would Asus get away with charging hundreds more for the PM 770 model than the 725? That's assuming many people who buy Asus buy it for this reason, of course.

I guess the drawback is that it is overclocking and this always poses a risk. Problem is, it just seems so hard to resist on this particular machine. If anythings goes wrong, then just flick the switch back before the machine is sent in for servicing.
As for the cpu, I'm not sure that ASUS would really care which cpu the buyer selects, i mean no one really knows what kind of arrangement ASUS and Intel has, perhaps the margins could be larger for the lower priced cpu?
How to customize my Z71V
