Is there any way to enable the temp sensor with something like MSR tool?

Does the CPU have temp senors?
-
Yes, usually one for each core.
-
I thought Some ES CPUs didn't have temp sensors. I know my es CPU has both working temp sensors and I didn't have to do anything to turn them on.
-
yes it is the case.. if u don't have it, u can't do anything..
-
Yup, if temperatures are not being recorded currently than there is no temperature sensor in your chip.

Ok thanks, I thought it was just disabled, but if it's not there than I guess it's fine.
But I would still like to know if there is a bit that you can toggle to enable/disable the sensor.
Because I like the way my fan speed is without the fan sensor, so maybe in the future it would be good to disable the sensor on any other CPU I will have.
So if anyone knows, please tell me. -
Wouldn't the alternative be just to set your fan speed to what you want it to be either with a registry hack or 3rd party application?

Well I have tried all other fan control method and so far have failed (reg hack, EC hack, fan speed control software and even looked at the BIOS with a hex editor), just can't do it...

ah, the on-going joys of using ES cpus in daily life..........
-
Just have to make sure you know what cpu you are purchasing. I did some research on my ES CPU before I bought it and I am very happy with it. Runs at 3.0 GHz all day and undervolts really well at 1.125V. Has both working temp sensors and runs exactly like the OEM version except I didn't pay $500+ for it.

The fan speed will be based on your gpu temp. That's how it worked when I still had the CPU.

Right now the fan speed is just how I like it, I was just wondering if it was at all possible to do, just out of interest.
Anyway, did you get my last PM? -
Actually, I want the fan speeds when implemented correctly. My Asus has a very low quiet surf speed when not off in low voltage/speed mode;but will ramp up when I push things like gaming.
If the CPU temp is disabled, what gives you an over-temp alarm if constant fan speed fails? -

My lap will be noticeably hot
But seriously I think there is no alarm, but that is what the critical threshold is there for. -
Lol, ahh-haa scorch marks!

what program are you using for temps as sometime its just the porgram not picking it up. I use HWMonitor and it has detected everything ive tried so far mayb if you havent give it a try.
Edit: i just noticed its you im sure youll of tried that already -

Yes I tried HWmon, also tried lots of other programs just in case.
Most dont show anything, some show 0C and some show -30C.
I just thought that the sensor must be there, because how do you leave it out when you make the cpu?
I think intel disabled it. -
The sensor is there and intel didn´t disable it. Problem is in early samples the code of temp sensor is different from the retail (QS). And in MP notebooks only the new code is integrited in the BIOS, so cannot read the temp of early samples.

That's interesting, any idea on how to read the temp? -
The temp sensor inside the CPU is basically a surface mount thermistor. You could attach one on the radiator as close as you can to the CPU die. If you're looking to get a one time temp reading use an infrared thermometer (they're not cheap).
How to enable the temp sensor on ES CPUs (msr tool)?
