    moral hazard and/or nando4:

I performed a hardware pin mod on my RTM875T-606 TME pin, see here but I still get no output whatsoever in my PLL registers or SMBus I/O registers (see here).

Now I've looked at this and am currently at this point after following these instructions and have run out of ideas. Is there anything you can think of to help me get overclocking working without jumping straight up to 250/266 MHz FSB via FSL x pin mods or the hacked RTM875 version of SetFSB?

I'm not sure what the problem is, but it might be that your SMbus address is not what it should be. Anyway problems with the SMbus are hard to troubleshoot, why don't you go for 266mhz?

With FSL x? I'm not sure that my CPU and/or memory will be able to handle it. I'd really, really like to be able to increment FSB by small amounts to find the right balance, fwiw. The hacked SetFSB from the Chinese boards *works* in that it will successfully clock down my FSB to 167 or clock it up to 250 (but that freezes instantly 98% of the time and within 10 sec 100%) which leads me to believe 266 MHz is not in the cards.

What can I do to troubleshoot the SMbus? I don't quite understand why the SetFSB hack 'works,' but yet SetFSB itself won't give me *any* diagnostic data...

The reason it freezes is because of the watchdog timer.

266mhz will work, if not then flash your SPD with thaiphoon burner to slow down your ram. If that doesn't work you can volt mod your CPU to make it stable.

How does the watchdog timer cause the freeze? IMHO, the freeze seems to be directly related to the RAM latency settings, because it didn't freeze after I flashed a 1GB Samsung SODIMM's SPD.

I managed to get the custom 250MHz tool for my PLL to work (detailed here) but I'm having the exact same issues with not being able to update my SPD EEPROM on Crucial SODIMMs as you did in this thread. I've added some info about the SPD chip IDs and what I know so far here and here.

If I try using setfsb to go from 200mhz to 250mhz in one go, my notebook freezes. But if I go up by 10mhz every few seconds, it is fine at 260mhz.

Yes your freeze must have been because of the ram, but there was a small chance that it was the watchdog.

Ah, understood - thanks for the clarification. I wonder why my system doesn't freeze with the OC_RTM875_250 tool then (going from 200 -> 250) when yours does...

Hi Moral Hazard and everyone ! :)
I am kinda new here, and I really appreciate the way you explained everything from beginning and then actually cared to reply, that's really kind of you.
But hey man, I am having some problems trying to find my PLL or say ultimately OCing my CPU, though I easily did it for my nVidia 9400 (Riva tuner :p ).
I ran setfsb and it wasn't able to determine mine PLL I ran clockgen but no luck, also my bios is locked as I could completely see their is an option of internal multiplier and FSB but they are Greyed out, so I can't use 'em.
Please can you assist me what to do. One more thing I checked all of my mobo back and their aint no chip that read something or anything like ICSsomething or IDTsomething. I am attatching some screenshots if they may help.
Please tell me what to do....

If you could take a photo of both sides of your motherboard, I might be able to help you ID the PLL.

By the way, is your bios an AMI bios?

    First, thanks for reply. :)
    Yes, its an AMI.
For the screenshots it seems quite a lot of work, cause the way my mobo is screwed to my cabinet and other things is messed up.
But anyways, I'll try to see if I could do that, I'll reply ASAP, btw isn't there any other way then looking at my mobo's pics?
Though, I'll see if I could get one...

Small chance I can make the fsb and multiplier options available through a quick BIOS mod if you give me a link to your BIOS file.

Though it would be risky, some tools make the BIOS corrupt.

    Hey there.
    This is my PC configuration:
    Notebookcheck: Acer Aspire 5740G-6979

I want to increase the FSB which does not move from 133 MHz to bigger number as making my DDR run at 1333 MHz ( currently 1066 MHz ) . All the programs I've tried until now won't move my FSB . Setfsb made a little progress from 133 to 136.6 ( from what i remember ) and made my DDR run at 1094 MHz . For a second i saw it at 11** MHz but that is all .

My second request is , if i decide to upgrade my RAM , can i use 4-8GB @ 1333 MHz ? Thanks for spending time reading this :)

I'm not sure, but I think if you upgrade your ram to 1333 MHz it will still run at 1066.

I think you would have to open the notebook and find the PLL to overclock.
(unless you know what PLL you have).

I've done manually overclocking on PCs from 90-95' , but on newer configuration and laptops , i am a bit afraid of touching here and there. I've looked a few places but can't find the scheme for my motherboard. Siw tells me that the name is :

    Manufacturer Acer
    Model Aspire 5740
    Version Rev
    Serial Number LXPMB0C0040121D1C82000

North Bridge Intel ID0044 Revision 12
South Bridge Intel ID3B09 Revision 12

    CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 430 @ 2.27GHz

    Maximum Capacity 16384 MBytes
    Memory Slots 4
    Error Correction None

On everest ultimate is suppose to say the same , but it does not gives me the serial number , only Acer aspire 5740 .

I think the only way you will find the PLL is if you take apart the notebook.
Though that doesn't guarantee that you will be able to overclock, it might even require a pin mod.

ok , then looks like i will have to wait for some program to be able to OC my pc too . Another question . How do the people from notebookchek.com get up to 7k points in 3d mark 06 when only last night i overclocked my gpu up to 669/1010 and the best i had was 3.7k points ?

yes , and btw on 3dmark03 , instead of 20.6k i hitted 24.4k points :) and maybe ( a big one ) i am wrong about the 3dmark they are showing and i am using . The one i was testing on is 3dmark vantage the newest , and they are using 3dmark06. If this is the same , does the monitor i use effect the result ? My laptop does not support 1280x1024 so i tested it on philips 19s , which is very old and slow .

Your vantage score should be a lot lower than 3dmark06 so I think it's right (vantage and 06 are not the same...).

OK thanks . About the ram , if each ram runs at 533 MHz ( 1066 MHz total ) and i buy 666.5 MHz (1333 MHz total ) , will it still run at 533 because of the slow fsb i have ? This is the last thing i will bug you with :p.

I'm sorry but I don't know much about these new chipsets with core i CPUs.

I don't think you have an FSB but I do think that if you buy 1333MHz ram it will run at 1066MHz because that's what your i5 CPU can support (see under "Memory Types"):
    http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=43537&code=430m

If you had an i7 CPU, that would probably allow the ram to run at 1333MHz.

But don't quote me on this.

    replied in other thread.

    EDIT:
@Dufus, that PLL you found the datasheet is good.

You can pin mod it to increase the CPU frequency.

I suggest contacting abo (setfsb creator) and give him the datasheet. He may be able to get setfsb to work for you.

Otherwise you can try a pin mod (I can give you some help with this).

Thanks for help, I send it to abo.

I contcated some resellers of clevo to help me out.

Pinmod ... I think my warranty is done if I do that :D

A Sofmod would be most precious. May I open my notebook again, it seams that there is a kind of sandwich of two mother boards ... = /

Where did you get that quote from?

My advice is to make sure you have all of the info he needs (see his webpage). If you have specific things for him to add to setfsb, that should'nt be a problem.

Can use SetPLL or R-W everything to read the PLL's config register 7 and 8 then evaluating the vendorID codes below we see what PLL brand you have. That can help identify what PLLs to test in setfsb.

Im using an Acer Aspire M3802 and would like to know if this means i can overclock, the top 5 PLL's in the list DO NOT give me the Invalid PLL code, but i cant seam to find one that will let me 'Set FSB'

    Hi everyone,

I've got an old NEC Versa Note VX notebook from 2000 and for the sake of a car-PC project I'd like to be able to overclock, well better said to "rightclock" a PIII with 1 GHz of speed which is incorrectly seen at 300 MHz. Currently I'm working with the original PIII, 500 MHz so prior to re-installing the PIII, 1 GHz I need to be able to overclock.

SiSoftware Sandra doesn't show me the clock generator so I've taken some pics of the mainboard and related mini-boards attached to it to spot the PLL (I didn't find any popular PLL brands):

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service (It's a 7-zip file)

If you need further data or pics please let me know. Thanks in advance

    Using Si Sandra I think I have found my PLL which is;
    Phaselink PLL202-01

Can I use SetFSB on this PLL?

    Thank you in advance

    1 method
tried si-sandra without any sucess / info about the clock generatoror pll

    2 method

tested following clock generators by pressing get FSB

clicking on setfsb and moving the slider had no effect on proccesor speed, but also didnt crashed the system.

all others clock generators gave SMbus error

    tried also R-W without luck

here is all I found about schematics

    L502x schematics

still dont know what pll/clock generator I have.

    using windows 7 ultimate x64

and the laptop is on my signature. (mobile sandy-bridge i3 with hm67 chipset)

I guess if I am out of luck :D

I have the same problem as you have.

But the funny thing is that I can find the pll in the schematics, but it's not on the motherboard.

Looks like sandy bridge systems really do have the pll integrated into the CPU.

    :(

it seems that sandy bridge users are screwed relating to OC >.<

arrgg, I needed to OC this so badly, dolphin emulator was 90% speed in some games, and I'm sure with OC the problem would be fixed.

well, maybe I can still disable hyperthreading with some bios hacking (current bios doesnt let me to disable HT >.<)

But when I try to pay, I get this:

"Currently PayPal accounts in Japan are only able to send payments. This recipient is not eligible to receive funds."

    UUUUGGGGGHHHHHH

Hi I was looking for clock generator in block schematic, and I found :
    BL10-6050A2332401-MB-A03.png

So my PLL : ICS9LPRS3197, and SetFSB don't have that PLL number.
    Any suggestion ?

I have HGL30, I know it's pretty old laptop, but trying to get best out of it to this day and practice some overclocking. I have read a lot of threads on this matter, but didnt find any specific information on ocing this model, and if its really possible to ocing with software, I am also willing to diassemble to do proper ocing, but hopefully the software works. After doing a lot of research I've managed to get the PLL id which if for yonah model although I have merom T7200 but I'm guessing motherboard and the clock generator should be same. If you guys need I can also send you the datasheet link for it. Anyway the PLL for this Unit is SLG8LP465VTR but there is no PLL setting for it in setFSB. It would be great if anybody with broad knowledge could help me with this. I am trying to overclock cpu, ram as well as The GPU, recently I ordered 2 * 2gb 800mhz ram althought my unit is set for 667mhz. so altogether trying to test n get the best out of this old model. Please dont be shy to give me any new link to any tools that might help get best out of this Unit.

    Thanks in Advance!

Sorry to post this again in this thread! HELP!
