I even opened this HP computer, and I didn't find something which look like a clock generator...

Is someone who know how to find the clock generator name/type?

you should be able to find it.

it may be near a small crystal that says"14.318".
look at every chip on the notebook.

Also be aware that some silego chips are square (not rectangle like most).

If you can take some good quality photos, I can help you spot it :)

Thank you so much for your answers.

And sorry to take your time for that.
In fact, I'm not totally a beginner. And just by reading your differant messages on differant posts, I should be able to find it alone with the explainations you gave.

BUT, in these case, I even not able to find "the precious" crystal... :p
It's like if there is no crystal on this motherboard. Could it be possible, that a new clock generator type(or a chip in general) include the crystal (or another frequency generator) in itself???

It's quite difficult to take clear pics but I took some:
    Two of the CPU side:
    http://img13.imageshack.us/i/dsc02604g.jpg/
    http://img151.imageshack.us/i/dsc02606p.jpg/
    Two of the other side:
    http://img194.imageshack.us/i/dsc02600v.jpg/
    http://img181.imageshack.us/i/dsc02672.jpg/
In this last pics, there is one chip where it's write "24.576" on it. In my case, could it be that, the crystal...

don't worry too much about finding the crystal.

My crystal was on the other side of the motherboard, not exactly near the PLL. Also myne looked gold, and nothing like the crystal on the desktop motherboards shown above.

one of these may be your PLL:

*I drew a red square around them*

Also it could be under the white thing.

one of them is an IDT chip (IDT makes the ISC PLLs I believe).
what does it say on the chip?

Mmmm, yes I thought like you. I took out this white thing... :D
But nothing seems to be interresting under it.
In my case this IDT chip is for sound, the realtek one just next to it, is for network...

For moment, I'm quite lazy to open one more time my laptop, it is really difficult to open it :nah:
However I looked really precisly on the motherboard :rolleyes2: , but nothing with 14.xxx on it, nothing which looked like a clock generator.
Next time I open it, I will have a much better look... :mad2: and take a pics of each chip.

I just wondered if there is not a software way to find out this clock generator name???

Yes, I already installed it. But nothing with Sandra, I will try a newer version, and next time I open my laptop I will take more care...

In Sandra 15.99, section LPC Hub controler, I have:

OEM Device name : Intel (ICH9M) LPC interface controler
Advanced TCO mode support : Yes
Hight precision timer enabled : Yes
Number of precision timers : 4
    System timer: 14.32Mhz

    And so on...

COULD IT BE THAT, my clock generator???
    The ICH9M from intel???

    Good try :p
No, on an other pic, I can read that it's an ISL6251 which control 'battery charging'...
    Thanks

    no, that's the intel southbridge.

that looks a bit to small to be it. But it is definatly worth double checking.
who knows, it just might be it.

    Yes, you are right.
I read over all the ICH9M datasheet, there is no mention about configuring the FSB clock speed, and one diagram show the clock generator as external of the ICH9M... :(

I was dreaming, perhaps in the new ICH9M, Intel included the clock generator in it.

Anyway, I have no information about a "system clock generator" with Sandra. So definitively I should find it by myself on the motherboard, to be continued...

    OK :p

I finally find out this **dff***$$$£à chipset, which was hidden under this 'white thing' as you said moral hazard ;)

In fact, I checked before under it, but as this 'white thing' is like a scotch tape it took all the ink on the chip. So it was un-readable...

I finally opened my eyes BIGGER  , and find that is a Seligo SLG8SP513V

The conclusion of this story, it's almost impossible to find it by soft. :(

P.S. I took some pics if someone need, just ask

A bit of a typo there, should be S il ego.
anyway I happy to hear that you found it.

BTW that PLL is supported by setfsb:
    http://www13.plala.or.jp/setfsb/

But I think your chipset is not supported.

BTW, was I right about it being a square chip and not a rectangle one?
