I saw this in a guide to optimizing SSD performance:

"The Advanced tab under System Properties has a button entitled Environment Variables. Click it and locate the temp and tmp variables for the user and the system. Change the path to another hard drive if they are located on the Solid State Drive."

I was able to navigate to the place where I could change the path, but when I clicked "Edit", the dialog box showed "%SystemRoot%\TEMP". How do I change the path to my D: drive (my other internal physical hard drive)?

You should be able to replace %SystemRoot%\TEMP with D:\

    Thanks, Iterator.

I was able to change the variables for the "user" after clicking "edit", but I don't see a way to change the same variables for "system" (I might have this backwards: I was able to change the variables in the lower option in the dialog box. Anyway, I need to change the other one). According to the instructions, I need to do both.

In System variables, scroll down to TEMP or TMP and select either one and click on Edit. A dialog box will appear where you can change the locations.

    Thanks again.

After moving these items to another drive, my system shut down and restart times increased significantly. I moved them back to the C drive, and shut times got back to normal (much faster), so I guess I'll leave this alone. :)
