    Hello Everyone,

I would like to ask help in overclocking my laptop which is a compaq presario cq40-310au its specs are:

    Amd turion 64 x2 2.1ghz
    Amd 780g chipset
Ati hd 3200 256 memory up-ed by 1406mb using HyperMem
2.8G ram 1.2 used by vid card

I have tried almost every overclocking software but it seems to be impossible ive tried:
    Rmclock- didnt read my cpu
Clockgen- didnt find a compatibe pll
    SetFSB- same w. clockgen
AMD overdrive- wont let me change settings
    Ati tray tools- Got BSOD
Atitools- can change but reverts to normal

I know Hp's BIOS are locked so its hard for me to overclock my laptop.
I'm getting 9-10 FPS in Lost Planet: Colonies, and experiences damage lag at Dragon Age: Origins. I would appreciate Any help on overclocking my laptop.

Yep, Moral Hazard is the guy you want to talk to if you need help overclocking. If you send him a private message, I think he'll reply.

If you are crazy enough to do a hardware mod, then he'll certainly help I think.

Yes, I'll try to help :)

First you should find the PLL, here is how:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=429383

Let me know when you know what it is.

BTW, are you overclocking the GPU?
Because if you can, it would help a lot. Probably more than overclocking the CPU.

I would want to overclock my GPU at CPU.

I tried ClockGen w/ the Ignore GSB/PCI setting checked and found out a compatible pll w/c is ICS 951412 I tried using the pll number on setFSB but I got error on it while on ClockGen i could change the slider and apply it but it reverts back to normal.

Try overclocking the GPU first. It will help more than overclocking the CPU.

    About the CPU, open SETFSB.
Then click on the diagnosis tab.
then select "PLL diagnosis" as the clock generator.
    Then click "getfsb".

Please take a screenshot of that and upload it here :)

Thanks for the ss, I just need to look at some datasheets to check something.

For the GPU, see post #12 and #14 here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=296285&page=2

    Also this might help:
    width='425' height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pEbXkfFX3Kk&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pEbXkfFX3Kk&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='425' height="344"></embed></object>

Maybe also try ATI tool and powerstrip.

According to your Device ID register (byte 8) your PLL is not an ICS chip.

Try using one of the silego PLLs (SLG******).

I found out that SLG8LP625T is working but setting the fsb after changing the slider doesn't change anything on my cpu.

And BTW i used powerstrip to overclock my gpu to 600mhz but it shows on gpu-z and amd overdrive that it's still 500mhz, which one is correct powerstrip or gpuz/amd overdrive?

Yeah you won't see any change in the frequency by looking at anything windows shows you. My OS still thinks I'm at 2.0GHz, haha.

As mentioned before, try Everest or CPU-Z. I've never used Everest, but CPU-Z shows me my actual FSB clock, the effective clock, and the resultant core clock & multiplier. Make sure you load the CPU when checking frequencies, in case that processor has any sort of speed-stepping or throttling.

That's because Windows reads it as part of the name of the processor.

Seems like I was wrong before, you should have an ICS 56 pin TSSOP PLL.

You could try CPU Tweaker too.But it only adjust the multiplier.

    http://www.tweakers.fr/cputweaker.html

    I can set my multi to x13 instead of x12 making the i7 720qm run a 1.73ghz @ %100 load. Stock is 1.6ghz

ICS is the brand. 56 pin means it has 56 pins. TSSOP means it is a rectangle shape.

I don't think you can overclock without taking apart the notebook.

If you run GPUz and try to backup the video BIOS, does it let you?

Yep, because if you can, that means you can mod the vBIOS to overclock the GPU.

useful stuff to look at didnt want to mess around too much coz its late at night and cant afford to lose another laptop hahha

i did once buy a dell and for some reason needed to reinstall windows. it ran so much faster without all the factory installed crap running in the background so maybe thats the quickest safest option - just reinstall windows then reinstall just the stuff you use.
