First, my apologies to all for asking a question that has likely been asked many times, but the search function here is pretty lame and even with simple searches like "erase" or "secure" I find no threads at all.

I have a previously used C300 that I want to use for a data/file disk in my new laptop that already has a boot C300 in use.

How should I prepare it? Simple formatting? I do recall seeing several posts re: a "secure erase".

Edit: Wow, on the next page I find a similar thread. We really need a search function that works. There is too much data here to have it lost once it goes to page 2.

Just a quick format will do. Secure Erase creates unnecessary writes.
