I just want to share this...

A lithium-ion battery provides 300-500 discharge/charge cycles. The battery prefers a PARTIAL rather than a FULL Discharge. Frequent full discharges should be AVOIDED when possible.

If laptops is used on main power, the battery inside a laptop will only last for 12-18 months. I must hasten to explain that the pack does not die suddenly but begins with reduced run-times.

    Tips:
    1. Try to keep the laptop battery at 40% charge in cold temperature.
I'm sure all of you will laugh at this, put it in a refrigerator if not in use at 40% charge.

    2. CONSIDER removing the laptop battery when running on AC power. (problem, transient due to power outage at blackouts)

I conducted a more than one year experiment about this(to verify)... I say this is precise and correct. This week i will have a post on my website about this topic so all of you will read this FIRST. NotebookReview Rules... :)

Just make the thread usefull and important.

Hasn't it always been said by many different battery sources that occasional full discharge cycles should be done?

That's one my question more than a year ago(about 1.5) when i bought my inspiron laptop. So I try to make some experiment to proved it. I monitor the %charge everyday keeping it at 40% and at low temp. I was amazed with it. 25-30% is down (based on estimated calc), if you always plug it. RESULTS: it SLOW down the aging of your laptop battery if you keep it 40% charge at low temp. I compared the previous values and 40% recommended level.

    ciprah_kapa,

Thank you for doing an experiment but the Notebook Battery Guide includes everything(well most-it doesnt mentions the graph) you said and then some so your thread will be closed.

    Thx
