Hey all,
I have a T500 with a single 2 GB memory module installed, and I want to add a second but would prefer to have the same brand installed, is there any program that I can run that will give the manufacturer of the RAM?
Thanks,
-
CPU-Z will as will so many others, it is free. It might not give the exact model but will list MFG.
Your desire to match is misplaced. There is absolutely no benefit on any mainstream current system doing so. You should look at clocks and latency then buy the cheapest from a good reseller. -
I know it doesn't matter, but I'm guessing that they used a less expensive brand, and I just want to match the sticks.
Thanks for the tip -
Cool I was just trying to help. If you wanna do what you wanna do it is cool. It is your stuff and I guess I do understand at some level matching things.
Try CPU-Z go to the SPD tab.
Remember there are only I think 5 MFG of all the DRAM in the world. So all these different SO-DIMM's are built on DRAM from 5 MFG. They make a PCB and attach the said RAM. Notebook BIOS do not offer OC, voltage adjustments so all will function within JEDEC specs.
If you really have generic RAM I guess you might have Samsung as they are the largest producer. It might be identified as Hyundai?
Good luck bud. -
My Samsung ram appears as Samsung, and like both above said CPU-Z is your best bet, also you might want to match the speed/timing of the ram to minimize problems
-
Brand of memory is next to useless in terms of a purchase criteria?
Does it come with a limited lifetime warranty? Get it.
You should focus on matching speed and latency. -

All brands for the most part use the same IC's if your really into your RAM you will find out what IC's the RAM module uses and go from there.
However this is really only important with desktops where extreme overclocking may take place, as certian IC's have certian properties like how well they handle a increase in voltage or the minimum voltage needed to run.
In a laptop even value level RAM is usually just fine as long as your motherboard/chipset is not picky. -
doesn't matter... u can use different brands and no problems.. difference is not much... i use 2 different sticks and no problems..
-
I used CPUZ and it doesn't list anything under the SPD tab unfortunately - I know the timings are 7-7-7-20 and can find the same on newegg, I'll probably just order that up and stick it in.
Oh, that sounded dirty, but thanks for the help! -
I prefer using everest. It works great! You can also learn when the ram was made,it shows more properties...
But if you use the free edition,it might only show the properties of the first ram,not the second or vice versa. -
How to tell what brand RAM is installed from the factory?
