Hey there.. I've read in a article somewhere that on July 22, Intel will be making price cuts as much as 50% on its processors.. so I'm just wondering if that is going to have a major effect on the price of laptops? Specifically Dell 1720 and HP dv9500t.

    Thanks

No, not really I think. It just means that you will get a better processor for the price of the processor below it......meaning you can get a T7500 for the price of the T7300, T7250 for T7100 and so on. Laptops won't really lower in price overall much at all.

I was searching on this about a week ago, and every article I found said September 2nd. So unless they've moved up the price cuts fairly significantly, you might be getting a little over-excited.

Also, IIRC, the price cuts were about 50% on Intel's quad-cores, 32% on the T7700, and 24% on the T7500. So it's not quite as big a price cut as it first appears when you see 50%.

The T7500 cost $316 for manufacturers at release, and probably is still at the same price, so you're looking at a $75 price cut. For the $530 T7700, you're looking at a $159 price cut. Hopefully that'll put it into a more $-based perspective - remembering of course the full discount will likely not be passed on to the consumer.

I agree, that is a good point.

In my opinion the T7500 is cheap enough as it is, but I'm not complaining if it drops a bit more . . . :)

It could be the case that notebook manufacturers will only reduce the prices when their current stock runs out...make sense this way...

July 22nd is the desktop CPU price cuts, followed a little later by server CPUs. The notebook CPUs don't get the axe until sometime in early September.
