    Hey guys,
I remember reading on here a while ago about whether or not you can upgrade a HP DV7-2043cl CPU to a quad core (T6400 to q9000)

As far as i can tell the 2043cl is the same as the 2040us
(same motherboard, power supply, design, ram, video card)

Would i be able to pop in a q9000 with success or would my notebook reject the chip altogether, have heat problems, or power issues?

I don't really care about battery life as i get 2 hrs now, 1.5 hours would be just fine, i have a netbook i carry around anyway.

    Thanks!

Many PM/GM 45 though technically should support Core 2 Quad, many manufacturers whitelisted quad cores. If it is very similar to a model that has a quad core, then go for it. Just realize there will be a significant increase in heat. Worse thing that could happen is no POST after you rip apart your notebook (most HP's require you to flip over your motherboard to get access to CPU).

cool thanks! I think i'm gonna go ahead and try it. C2D quads on ebay are surprisingly cheap $130-200. If it fails i can always put in my old chip and sell the quad back on ebay :)

I have a Q(X)9200 with unlocked MP but I have never tried it on my HP. I have kinda solved the heat problem, my T9600 @ 2.92Ghz idles at 29C. Lower then any other laptop I have at home.. Don't know if I should try my Quad on this laptop or not...

I use the DUAL IDA mod with modded BIOS. It only gives a jump from 2.80Ghz to 2.92Ghz. But I have most of the time CPU maxed out at 100% so every mhz is a win for me :)

And yeah, 29C on a HP dv5- series laptop :)
