you should only upgrade to 3 gigs. if you upgrade to 4 your notebook will only beable to use 3 anyways because of the 32 bit version of vista
-
You will notice a proformance boost. Although, with a 32 bit OS, it will only use 3GB - 3.5GB. SO i recommend getting 64bit + 4GB or 3GB RAM and stick with 32 bit.

Is there any way to upgrade to 64 bit for cheap?

uhm well do you have a desktop or know anybody that has 64 bit vista on there computer. you need the disk

On a notebook and I don't know anyone with 64 bit some of my friends still on XP. I'm guessing I have to buy a new OS here, but is there any discounts available.

Tune up your computer using the Vista tweak guide, that should help your performance by lowering RAM usage:

I got my laptop down to >600MB usage at idle. Doesn't cost anything but a little time. -
Thanks ahl395, but I think I'm just gonna wait for Windows 7 and making sure to get the 64bit version this time. I'm really regretting my decision getting 32 bit. As for why I need more ram is photoshop cs4. Ps lags everytime I use it. Hopefully the vista guide will help a little thanks chaz.

Why not 3gb? All you have to do is buy a single 2gb stick.
3gb is the sweet spot for Vista -
Uhh can you walk me through this...I found for the dv5t it can take a DDR2 PC2-6400 800 Mhz RAM. So getting one 2gig stick would be fine but, don't my sticks have to match and something about the timing also??? Again I'm new to ram upgrading.
-
lol No, this isnt like the old days where you need to match the RAM.
Theres something called the JEDEC standards. You do not need to match the timing.
3gb is a very popular upgrade -
Okay that seems to make everything easier. Thanks flipfire.
