    Hi,

I have purchased a HP 2500t laptop with the following configuration..

    HP Pavilion dv2500t notebook with Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor T7500 (2.20 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)

I want to upgrade the RAM of the machine. I have checked, for a single slot 2GB RAM there are 2 options available...

    - 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 667MHz SODIMM Laptop RAM
    - 2GB DDR2 SODIMM PC2 PC-6300 800Mhz 800 Mhz 2 GB PC-6400

Does the 2nd RAM operated on 800 MHz frequency is compatible with the above processor and underlying motherboard?

    Please advice..

    Thanks,
    Gurjeet Sareen

you should get the first on at 667mhz cuz the santa rosa laptops like yours do not run RAM at 800mhz so either the second choice RAM will not work or be downgraded to 667mhz

    Hi guys,

Thanks for your reply... yeah I have a to upgrade it to 4GB only... 2x2GB i.e. dual channel.

But how can i able to get the exact info whether this laptop will work on 800 MHz RAM or not. Is this depends upon the Processor FSB i.e. 800 MHz in my case or on the motherboard in the underlying laptop.

    Pls help.

    Thanks,
    Gurjeet

The chipset(Intel 965 series) does not support DDR2 800 memory which basically means that none of the current generation Intel Santa Rosa(965) based systems support DDR2 800. The max memory supported is DDR2 667. Paying extra for DDR2 800 is useless.

Having two identical RAM modules is not normally essential to get good performance. 1GB + 2GB will still work fine. Read this thread.
