Purchased a hp4-1120 laptop. Was looking to upgrade it in the cheapest/most efficient manner and wanted to ask the experts here for their advice.
Processor is T5800, Is it possible to upgrade this to a t9300 or t9500 just my exchanging the processor on the MB?
Hard drive 250gb 5400. Wanting to upgrade this to a 320 gb 7200 or larger drive. This is a quick exchange after cloning the harddrive. Which model would be a good fit for this.
What other parts may one want to upgrade. As far as I know the hard drive and processor would be the easiest and bring the most. What are your thoughts?
I thnk that for the cost of exchange and 200 bucks, I can supercharge this thing. Any reasons not to proceed?
Thanks in advance to all for their input

You can upgrade the cpu, memory and harddrive on your laptop.
The T5800 is a santa rosa based processor, so you should be able to upgrade to the T9300/T9500 without any problems.
All you need to do is take your laptop apart, unlock the current cpu, remove the current cpu, install the new one, lock the cpu in place, than apply some thermal compound, and put the system back together
The harddrive in your system is a 9.5mm 2.5" SATA laptop drive. You can upgrade to any of the 320gb 7200rpm drives made.
I personally recommed getting any one of these:
320gb 7200rpm
Hitachi 7K320
WD3200BEKT
or
500gb 5400rpm
WD5000BEVT
Hitachi 5K500.B
Check zipzoomfly and newegg for the best harddrive prices.

Thanks for the quick reply, if it were you, would you invest in the t9300 or t9500?
In your opinion, with a take home price of 550 for the dv4-1120, would the price difference, lets say 200 for t9300, upgrade to 320gb hardrive 7200 for a 100, vs selling price for t5800 85 dollars, and 70 dollars for the 250gb be worth upgrading this? It would cost roughly 150 bucks. With this said, research shows that a comparable laptop would be 800 plus minimum.
Are there any tricks necessary getting the bios to learn the new processor or disk? Will the 45nm tech just be a plug and play fix for the 5800 65nm core?
Do you think the hassle would be worth this?
thanks. -
Well if I were you I wouldnt be buying an HP,
but on the processor analysis. I would definitely get the T9300 over the T9500. The marginal performance difference between the T9300 and T9500 is hardly worth the price difference, which is about $100.
You will get more performance from a faster harddrive than you will from a slightly faster processor.
The cpu will be just a drop in replacement. The Dv4 is new enough that it will support the 45nm processors.
