my current hp dv6 1tb hdd (Toshiba MK1059gsm) has continuous increase number of reallocated bad sectors (current 256 reallocated bad sectors).
until now there is no apparent problem.
I'm considering replacing this drive with new 1tb hdd and clone entire hdd, but where I live the only available 1tb hdd is WD10TPVT (which is 5200 rpm).
I didn't find any detailed online review about this drive. Does it have the same or lower performance than Toshiba hdd??
any other suggestion.
thanks

Why not seek repair from HP?

hp support assistance says hdd. health is O.K., therefore, I don't think Hp will replace the hdd. -
256 is an odd number for bad sectors... Maybe try download Hard Disk Sentinel trial and check what it says for Overview of the drive.
"The WD10TPVT model is 12.5 mm high and may not be compatible with all notebook systems." Actually, going by this it would seem that your current drive is 12.5 mm as well. Going by the HD Tune graph, both drives seem to have similar performance. -

You must back up your data frequently even if drive health is good. The drive is not dying yet, as spare sectors are constantly remapped to take the place of bad sectors. Only when bad sectors really appear, because there are no more spare sectors, then you know it's really going.

Yep, unless you get only one or two bad sectors, better backup because the bad sectors tend to accelerate and then the drive goes completely dead.
-
That drive you have now is a ticking bomb waiting to go off. Get another hard drive and back your data up now.

I'm aware of that, but the only option available is WD10TPVT which is 5200 rpm and I didn't find any detailed review of that drive performance to compare it with my dying Toshiba hdd.
Do anyone used this hdd.?? Is it good drive?? -
anyone used this hdd (WD10TPVT)? any benchmark results?
any help appreciated -
You don't need to specifically get a 1TB drive. You can choose a 750GB 7200RPM drive at 9.5mm, it will fit and give you better performance.

thanks but I knew that, meanwhile, I would like to keep my files (which almost fill up 1tb. hdd.) without the need for additional external storage.
