I have the laptop being delivered this week and i am looking to get an ssd .

I regret ordering the 1tb hdd with the mssd (but when i ordered i did not have plans at first to get an ssd)

But now i am convinced the way to go is a true ssd . But having never installed an ssd i am at a loss on what is needed and the steps to take.
After reading a bit i see alot of people suggest this ssd

Amazon.com: Samsung 830 - Series MZ-7PC256N/AM 256 GB 2.5 Inch SATA III MLC Internal SSD Laptop Kit with Norton Ghost 15: Electronics ( i could get it for about $10 cheaper without the kit and norton)

Are there extra wires or anything that i will need to install this?

Any help or advice anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

What i have done so far is sent an email to Hp and this is what they have told me so far.

You need the following to make the Hard Drive as secondary hard drive:

Hard Drive Hardware Kit (not illustrated, includes left and right bracket rails, connector cable, Mylar cover with tab, 4 screws, and 4 rubber isolators)

The kit is 59.00 plus tax and shipping i am sure.

I am still trying to figure out if its a 7mm or 9mm though. .. i think they are 7mm

I think on your model it most likely will be. The Dv7 has two hdd bays and they don't supply extra plugs or anything.

The Samsung 830 is a 7mm SSD, though you should be able to fit it assuming that you reuse the metal drive caddy that the 1TB HDD comes with. Take out the HDD, move the SSD into that metal caddy, screw into hole holes on the side of the drive by reusing the screws you just took out, and the 830 SATA connector should line up just fine with the HP's SATA connector. The 830 Laptop kit comes with a 2.5mm spacer.

Thanks for the info .. I ordered the 830 today and took the hit aod ordered the second caddy from hp.. Ouch after taxes and shipping it was 80 bucks. ( i did this because of the issues i have been reading with people not being able to install just the ssd if you have mssd also) So hopefully everything works out.
