I would love to hear everyone's opinion on the upcoming hybrid hard drive and Intel Roboson technology.
-
Since we don't have any to test on our own, I guess my opinion is that they sound great and I can't wait. By that I mean that I literally can't wait, so I'll be missing the boat on that for a while.
I figure that since Robinson and hybrid drives should have more or less the same end benefit, I can upgrade my HD later if it looks like they really make a big, noticeable difference. -
The major problem with the hybrid drives is they're using flash based RAM. At least, thats what I've understood so far. Now, if you're asking what is wrong with flash memory... the problem is that it degrades after a few thousand read/write cycles. So, if you're a heavy user, the memory will go bad in say... 6 months.
I'm sure that A) they have a fix
B) are not using flash memory in final products
C)are going to have easy, free replacements for the flash
I'd hope they go wtih B and put real ram in there... -
Samsung uses OneNAND flash memory. I am not sure that it solves the degradation problem though
