I'm looking to upgrade my hard drive, but I don't want to settle for the speed of a 7200 RPM drive. I need at least 500 GB of space, so I'm not just going to get a SSD. I've determined that I probably have three options: get the Momentus XT, get the Revodrive Hybrid, or get a 120 (or 128) GB SSD and then pair that with an external HDD. I can afford the base Revodrive (but nothing more), so when does that launch? I know it was supposed to launch in July but that didn't happen. What do you all think? Is the SSD/HDD combo too much of a hassle to deal with or is it worth the huge speed boost? Thanks for any help in advance!

If you can get an internal HDD as well as a SSD, do it. Otherwise just get the hybrid.

How would I be able to get both? It's a laptop so...that's impossible, isn't it? Also, any ideas on the Revodrive's release date?

If you can afford it; SSD + HDD! I personally use a 120gb vertex 2, 500gb xt (hybrid), and 500gb 7200rpm seagate. The hybrid is my 2nd storage drive

Best SSDs? That's some rhetoric. I never had a prob with my vertex2 but lots of ppl have problems. Go with Intel to be safe 320(?) for 2nd gen or 510 for 3rd gen. Apparently sandforce AND ocz has a bad reputation for failure rates and reliability

Here's one more thing that I guess I didn't clarify: the M11x has no optical drive, so the SSD/HDD combo would be an internal SSD and an external HDD.
A few people posted that I should use an internal SSD and internal HDD...can someone confirm that that's not possible (as the M11x has no optical drive and can't use a caddy)?

oh, m11x has no ODD. Well, It'd be a toss up between 500gb XT/7200rpm 750gb black/5400rpm 1tb blue. Yes that 1tb blue apparently has >7200rpm/500gb speeds due to aerial density. All their prices are similiar. I'd go with a XT unless I needed a little extra HDD space

I can't find a SSD usable as a only drive solution due to storage space.

So the Revodrive isn't worth the money? Also, how is the 5400 RPM 1 TB Blue faster than an ordinary 7200 RPM drive?
