    $_57 (1).JPG 71GKlfv22TL._SL1500_.jpg $_57 (1).JPG Hi guys,

I have a odd question to ask, I have an MSI TG70 2QD.

It came with 4GB x 2 Ram, So i decided to upgrade it with a futher 4GB x 2 Ram. So I went to Cruicial web site and down loaded the software Scanner to scan my laptop. The result was

    Hynix (8GB) 4GB x 2 PC3-12800 DDR3 1600MHz non-ECC Unbuffered HMT351S6CFR8C-PB
    4GB DDR3 PC3-12800 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.35V
    So I bought CRUCIAL BALLISTIX

    • Series: Ballistix Sport
    • I know they do not Match but I plan to sell the Hynix and buy a matching pair of Ballistix , BUT then I SAW
    • (2 x 4GB) 1600MHz DDR3L CL9 SODIMM Notebook Memory Module - Black HX316LS9IBK2/8

    • So my question is If I buy the HYper X for gaming will my laptop RUN it at a frency speed of 2400mhz max.
    • I will sell my orginal Ram Hynix (8GB) pc12800, leaving with the Crucial memory, I have two options, i can buy a matching pair of Crucial or I can buy the Hyper X.
    • If I buy the Hyper X, then i will sell my Crucial and buy another Hyper x to match. I want a matching pair.
    • Is there any Huge difference BTW my Cruical Ram and the HYper X? I know the Hyper x is pc1600 and can go up to 2400mhz and the Cruical is pc 14900 with a 1866mhz..
    • Whats my best option?

You're not stating the price differences, but I am assuming it is negligible; buy the Hyper X (even if it is much more expensive and the following conditions are true).

Especially if you have an i7 QC (which I'm sure you do...) IB or higher platform.

With your notebook, I'm also assuming you can adjust RAM timings in the BIOS and while the % difference in raw performance will be mostly in the single digits - if you can get it to 2400MHz you should be seeing over 10% differences depending on the workflow.

If all you need is 16GB RAM max (my 'minimum' recommended RAM capacity) I would suggest a 2x 8GB SoDimm set to ensure you have the best chance of hitting the highest speeds and lowest latency possible.

    See:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...ull-speed-help-screenshots-appreciate.699186/

See the above link for a discussion on what a difference better RAM can make for even systems that can't officially support and/or overclock them.

Thanks, You just gave me an Idea, I will Sell y crucial 4GB x 2 and buy 8GB x 2 Hyper X, Right now i have noticed my laptop has a bit of lag which never happed even when i had 8gb of Ram, not sure if its the different pc12800/pc14900. The max my laptop can take is 32GB, i have an i7 4700MQ haswel 2.4ghz-3.4

Honestly you will not notice any difference in gaming with faster RAM. It will not help. 16GB RAM isn't a bad idea, however for gaming. And unless MSI unlocks tuning of the RAM, fastest it will go is 1600MHz anyhow.

As H suggests, it's not your RAM speed causing slowdown's.

FWIW my own MSI GE60 natively supports 2666MTS but your not likely to get that at 1.35V and while you may prefer writing XMP it does also allow custom configuration in the BIOS but IIRC (not too sure) it's part of the hidden settings and needs to be unhidden which could be done without a BIOS mod.

Hi guys need more help understand this, I will explain further.. As you know I have two types of ram on my laptop Hynix 12800 pc 1600 and crucial 14900 pc1866
I removed the slower Hynix as i am selling it, Yesterday I ordered Hyper X frequency speed of 1600- 2400mhz 8gb x 2.

I noticed on CPU Z my Crucial is slightly better than the ram i removed obviously. BUT its say NB frequency 798mhz and Dram frequency @ 931mhz . I read Dram frequency is always x 2 ie 931 x 2 which is close to 1866mhz,(798mhz x 2 = 1596) of my crucial memory, what is the actual memeory speed of my laptop. Is it 1600hz or 1866?

Like i said I have 8gb x 2 on its way frenquency of 1600mhz- 2400mhz not need for bios setting. FROM CPU Z 8GB is my crucial and 16GB is my combined Crucial n Hynix.. speeds of Ram are different

The DRAM frequency is 931MHz, the mega transfers per second is 1862MTS but so many people incorrectly use MHz in place of MTS it has become a standard to do so. The NB frequency is your ring/cache frequency and usually is in sync with the core ratio.

sorry about the mulitple pictures. Can you explain what you said above? Have a look at my 8GB ram installed... and explain

What will happen if I install my on its way Hyper X 1600mhz-2400mhz ram?

If your using just those 2 ordered Kingston modules then it will probably run at 2133MTS out of the box.

This is using MSI GE60 BIOS customized DRAM settings.
The NB frequency is 4.3GHz due to being an overclock limit at the voltage being used. The DRAM frequency is 1.2GHz and therefore running at 2400MTS.
Note that they are 4GB modules and that the 8GB ones you have ordered can make it a little harder on the integrated memory controller so you will just have to try and see what you can do with them.

This whole memory business isnt as stright forward as installing a GPU or CPU. When i get my new Memory I will let you know what CPU-z tells me. Thanks

dumb question my DRAM frenquency is at 931.2mhz and my NB frenquency is 798mhz but it also shows 1895mhz. Remember i am using crucial pc14900 @ 1866mhz

and i will be getting hyper X.

Dual Data Rate 3 ram. Dual data rate = 931.2 MHz *2 = 1862.4Mhz, due to BCLK frequency probably being 99.9 instead of 100. That speed will fluctuate depending on your reference clock frequency (BCLK)

i am getting a new memory from hyper X which a speed of 1600mhz to 2400mhz. Since my laptop is on a 1866mhz(Crucial) i take it my new hyper x will at least show 1866mhz , if i can get 2133 out the box then great but if I get 1600mhz then I will be returning it and getting a 8gb x 2 crucial and settle for 1866mhz

I just installed the hyper X impack and it is running at 798mhz x 2 so i am abit disappointed the crucial ran at 932 x 2 out of the box.

I was hoping the Hyper X would match the speed of the Cruicial. I will return it and get a Crucial 8gb x 2.

If i am gaming on my hyper X will the speed really increase?

I returned the Hyper X 16gb kit and got my self the Crucial 16gb kit and it is running at 931mhz x 2 basically what is written on the box 1886mhz and i think thats the fastest my mother board will allow. So i am happy. Thank God for amazon return police and advance refund policy!
