I was thinking about replacing my 8gb of of 1333mhz Dell Memory with HyperX memory.
PROVANTAGE: Kingston Technology KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX 8GB Kit 2X4GB 1600MHZ DDR3 204PIN SODIMM Non ECC CL9
Does anyone here with HyperX think that I should do it? Think it's worth it?
-
not really worth it for daily use, if your a bencher then yes. otherwise you won't see much difference between the two. also depending on your system it may not even run at 1600mhz, like the M15x will only run it @ 1333. not sure for M17x though.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
If you plan on overclocking it, sure. Otherwise no,

Are you sure thats notebook memory? I have hyperx in my m17 and i love it. When i was looking fir some for m17x the most they offered was 2x2gigs i didnt see any 4 gig notebook sticks?

I actually called Kingston regarding this kit when I read this thread, being that it's not on their website. They confirmed the kit's existence and gave me the following specs:
KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX
XMP ready kit
2x4GB 204 Pin DDR3 SO-DIMMS
Timings at 1600Mhz: 9-9-9-27
Timings at 1333Mhz: 9-9-9-18
I was hoping to see better timings at 1333Mhz for the price premium they are asking for. Their 4GB HyperX kit does have better performance than all the other kits (CAS 7 for the HyperX, CAS 9 for everything else) and it is worth it to me.
Since you already have 8GB from Dell, and the new HyperX kit offers little to no performance gains, and it costs $260 (which is double the normal 8GB DDR3 kit), you're perfectly fine with what you have -
If you don't have a special reason for buying performance memory for a laptop, it is just money flushed down the toilet.

HyperX is great RAM but really for performance and OCers.. i have hyperX but wait.. i got it free
.. free upgrade!
Cheers

Either way don't expect miracles. -

Timings dont really carry the same weight as they used to due to the advances in memory controllers and other misc factors.
99% of laptops out there cant overclock memory, so overclocking memory is about pointless.
Even if you can overclock your memory over half of the "non performance" memory overclocks just as well it was just not binned and labeled to be performance memory.
