I need to replace the screen on a Hypersonic Aviator EX7. It is a 17.1" 1920x1200 glossy screeen. The panel itself is labelled LP171WU1(A4)(K2). What I would like to know is whether the LP171WU1(A4)(K4) panel will work? I've been told a) yes it will, and b) no it won't. Sigh.

The reason I ask is I would probably get it from laptopscreen.com, and not only is the K4 panel $42 cheaper (the K2 from them only comes *with* inverter, which I'm pretty sure I don't need); plus they have the matte K4 in stock, and do not have the matte K2 in stock. I'm pretty sure I want to switch to the matte. This machine will be used as a general surfing, engineering graphics, and image editing machine, not gaming or entertainment or video/DVD watching.

    Will the K4 work?

    Thx....Randy

Typically you should call / LiveChat / submit a support ticket with LaptopScreen.com for such questions.

I'm pretty certain it will work. Let me know if it does =)

Thx, I did; that was the source that said they didn't think it would work. However another service company said it would (they supply panels as well). I realize the opinion of the person actually selling the screen should prevail, but a) they didn't sound entirely confident, and b) this seems to be a hugely confusing and misunderstood topic. So I thought I'd ask. Maybe I'll go back to them and talk a little more.

    Thx....Randy

I think you are clear to order, come back to let us know if the swap works or not. Make sure to pull out the battery when replacing the LCD.

Panel arrived within a day or two. Not the part # I ordered though. I ordered LP171WU1(A4)(K4) which I believe is an LG made panel, and they sent me a Samsung panel, I already forget the number, but it was something like LTN170xx. I phoned them to get clarification and was assured it was an equivalent panel, so I went ahead and tried it. Seems to Work just fine, which also proved my existing screen had failed.

I don't have any knowledge of these panels' performance, like response time, colour gamut, brightness, contrast, etc, but to my eye it looks ok. I'm happy enough that I could get that old Hypersonic working and not have to chuck it out.
