Hello,and Welcome...
Now I need advice about using my lap battery I will tell you my story and you
Advise me About what to do to keep my battery good...![]()
*My lap top Model: satellite C660-A260.
** I didn't use my lap battery ever, since I bought my laptop since 1 year or more bit,,I just put the battery one time in my laptop just to make sure that its good and when it sign that it charging I removed it back at the same time and since this time I didn't use it and I always use my laptop by direct cable plugged and for long time every day at home,,,,,but now the electricity cut off many times in the day so iam confused and don't know to use this battery at this time only or not so I have many questions about this situation and I hope you answer me...![]()
1- Do I wrong about didn't use my battery ever since I bought my lap ????
2- Does leave the battery without using since I bought it have adversely affects on it ??? (Note: I Never used it as I said above)..
3- I heard that I should use battery every week at least one time to keep it good,,,is this right, and what about this if I use a laptop cable Directly In the wall plug????
4- What about this situation above iam confused to use battery and I will leave it without use after the electricity back regulary as it was and I think this will let the battery corruption ??!!!!!!!!
5- What if I use the battery when I use my laptop pulged is this wrong and have adversely affects on my battery???
6- Are there any ways to keep battery good after use (like put it in a Blastic bag for e.g) or any other ways???
7- Is there way to keep the battery pins in back of laptop clean from dusts and rust,,cause i didn't put battery in this place which makes this pins exposed to the air and dusts....???
8- What is the best situation to leave battery VERY long time on it without use *e.g (leave battery empty charge - low charge - medium charge - full charge) ????
9- Is using or put battery in laptop while i'm plug the laptop with electricity cable on the wall have bad effects on my battery age ????
10- Can you tell me more and explain the (drip-loading) and (Sleep) batteries cause i dnt know any thing about this ?????
**I hope i find answers for my questions,,and someone know about batteries and powers help me about this,,,and if any one need more explanation iam ready.....and i am waiting for answers...
Thanks Very Much <<<<<My Respect>>>>>
==================================================================
There is some one told me to freeze battery and here is my questions about this if freezeing is a right solution:
1- where can i find the "best way to recharge" and "Freeze option" are they in the Laptop manual ??
2- I heard that the battery Issued Radiology harmful or damaging waves (or something like this) that waves have bad effects on the surround things,,is this right e.g (this will adversely affects on the food on the freezer or the battery has bad effects if it is beside peoples).
3- when i was store 1.5V battery on the fridge it was corrupt (weak) is this applies to Laptop battery ???
4- I heard and read that the Laptop batteries contain liquid elements like (lithium),,,and as i know that liquids increase by freezing like water so is this will blows battery and corrupt it ???
5- about freezing battery surly this has high humidity,,so is this will make the battery metal pins rust because of humidity water ???,,and also after i take it from freezer to use it so it will be vulnerable to air with water and may also rust ????
6- so as you said that this is a "loose-loose situation",,,So what about if i intend to use battery as normal and i wont use the electricity cable, so lets say that the battery still for 2 or 3 hours that mean that i will charge and empty it for may be (five) times in the day cause i use my lap for long time may be 12 or more hours in the day,,,,So is this also has bad effects on battery ???? (if this has bad effect on battery this will be lose-lose-lose-lose situation)
7- if the all ways i said about using my battery wrong or have bad effects on battery so what is the Best thing of this ways i said above or didn't said and the lowest harm-damage for the battery and its life ??? (The best and the normal and perfect use for Laptop battery general)???
Thanks Very Much,,I am Sorry for Longing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

1) Not necessarily wrong not to use the battery when using the laptop when plugged in. Ignoring the power outages, operating a laptop only on mains power doesn't harm the laptop.
2) There shouldn't be any noticeable ill effects on the battery when not using it for a long time, though if you had a charge in there (ideally, you want to store batteries at 40% charge), it'd deplete over time. Just recharge and you should be fine.
3) Never heard about having to use a battery every week; I have two batteries for my W520 and I tend to not use one of the two batteries for months at a time before switching them out. And there's no issue with having the battery in the laptop while using mains power.
4) Battery corruption...? What do you mean by that (I've never heard of such a condition, especially if you're just leaving the battery out for a year).
5) As mentioned, there's no issue doing this.
6) Keep unused batteries in a cool, dry place and don't subject it to extreme heat or temperature changes (eg, don't store it next to a fireplace or an AC vent).
7) A can of air can be used to blow out the dust around the pins (and you can use it to clean the rest of the computer of dust as well).
8) Leave it at a 40% charge, leave it in a cool, dry place. NO exposure to heat or large temperature changes.
9) Already said that there's no issue with doing this.
10) Don't know about either, but Googling for "drip-loading batteries" seem to concern 12V car batteries, so that's something I'd never try with a laptop battery. Not sure what you mean by sleep batteries though.
--------------------------------------------------
1) Freezing a battery, as Google tells me, is meant to help you recover a battery (ie, it's not charging). If your laptop battery works fine, I don't see why you'd bother freezing it.
2) Ha, what? Just like how cell phones supposedly fry your brain?(in all seriousness though, batteries sending out EM radiation is bogus. Ask your friend for proof lol).
3) Google says that freezing a laptop battery can help it charge again if it's not charging.
4) Lithium is a solid at standard temperatures... And actually, water is one of the few (if only) liquid that expands after freezing. Everything else shrinks after freezing.
5) Not only might it be possible to rust the pins, but you could short the battery, which I would **strongly** avoid doing (laptop batteries have about as much energy as a hand grenade).
6) You'll use up charge cycles on the battery if you do that. Typically batteries have about 3000-5000 charge cycles before they die out, iirc.
7) Just use the laptop battery as normal, man. Modern batteries don't need to be babied or taken very special care of. Relax and enjoy the laptop. -
I would like to change a few things.
2 and 3. If you don't use the battery for a long time, the cells degrade faster. You might not notice it until you recalibrate the batteries. Completely discharging the battery is to be avoided. It can kill the battery faster too. The individual cells within the battery require certain amount of power (at least the cell circuit within the battery- read it somewhere, can't remember) to stay active. That is why there is a recommendation for the batteries to be charged every few days/weeks. They die faster when completely discharged. Better quality batteries last longer. You need to charge a little longer each time to kick start the cells. Having the battery in the laptop when plugged in will not harm it. The battery is bypassed.
4. You must be talking about firmware corruption. Every battery has firmware that talks to the OS. If that is corrupt, you will have to get more information on resetting it (mostly impossible).

1. Electrons move when there is an energy gradient. When you take away a source of energy (in this case - heat), the electrons slow down. But I wouldn't put this to the test. Minimal impact on the battery in my opinion.
2. Don't bother with that. Even you are emitting radiation. Ignore it.
6. 300-400 cycles for cheap batteries and over 1000 for good ones.
Agreed with Jarhead - just leave the battery alone. Laptops today come with non-removable batteries. Battery tech hasn't changed much in a couple of years. Just avoid moisture/ high temperatures near anything electrical. -
Hell, I mean, with WiFi, cellular, radio, light (which is EM radiation), and even cosmic background radiation, if any sort of possible EM radiation was possible in a battery, you'd be fine. Otherwise we would have all been dead several times over with the radiation you experience *every day* if it was really harmful.
Really, the only everyday item you should be worried about with EM radiation is if you sleep in an active x-ray machine or something. Or in a tanning bed. Something like that.
Obligatory XKCD -
Jarhead thank u very much...
idiot101 thank u very much...
thanks very much men iam really grateful for this perfect answers........
**so,now u know all about my battery story, can u give me a reliable steps (like 1,2,3,4,....) i follow them to use my battery and keep it safe and for long time??? (Taking into consideration that i use my lap for very long time may 12 or more hours in a day and may full days to download gamesso is it easy to leave battery pluged with AC Cable for this long times) (and i will be very thankful).
1- also i may use my battery as backup power source cause the electericty cut of as i said is there problems??
2- what is the battery cycle is it mean to (full) charge the battery then empty it,,,or just it will be also counted as acycle even if i charged it to 40% and empty it (what is the cycle)????
3- how do i know that my battery want to recharge after i charged it for 40% and leave it (how do i know that it empty)???
4- if the battery empty itself without using after i carged it for 40% is this count as cycle???
5- you told me to store it in cold dry place ok,,,,the temprature in my country reach 39 and 40 Degree so is it easy to keep it in my room??? is there any alternatives!!!
6- in the question #4 in the first section i mean by (battery courruption) is (weak or empty fast) and iam sorry for my english...
-
1.Personally, I'd just leave the battery in your laptop. Think of it as a backup power source than a laptop battery. Modern laptops are smart enough to not overcharge the battery these days.
2. 1 cycle usually it from 0% to 100% I think
3. You'll just have to connect it to your laptop and use the battery meter to show you, unless your battery has an exnternal LED counter.
4. Kind of I guess, but its not a big deal
5. Just keep it in your laptop, it's more useful there than not in your laptop.
6. Thats when a batteyr is worn out, whether by using it or by heat or some other factor.
As long as your go onto battery mode once a week or so it should be ok.
I use my laptop mostly on AC power and the battery is fine tbh. -
DDDenniZZZ thank you very much, this steps are really helpful thanks very much, man !!
ok,now i just have little questions:
1- how do i know that my laptob is modern model to ensure that it wont fully charge my battery???
2- is it shows to me in taskbar that the battery isn't full charged while it attached to the laptob and i use it with AC cable,,or it shows to me that it 100% charged but it isnt carged full(completely)????
3- if i going to buy a new lap top how do i make sure that this laptop didn't stay in the computers shop for along time so the battery courrupt (weak) and its qualty reduce due to this long time in the laptob cartoon box in the store without use??? -
1) If it uses a Li-Ion battery, you should be good.
2) Typically, I consider anywhere between 98%-100% to be "fully charged". When you use a laptop on AC and with the battery installed, what actually happens is that the laptop uses the battery for power and the AC line charges it up as you go (that way, when you unplug a laptop while still turned on, nothing happens as opposed to turning off immediately). Though if there's no battery installed and you unplug the AC, then it'll shut down.
3) Well, I suppose if you want to guess the age of the laptop, you could look at the specs. CPU or GPU specs will tell you the rough age of the laptop; for example, Sandy Bridge laptops (iX-2xxx CPUs) are about two years old now, whereas the current Haswell laptops (iX-4xxx CPUs) should be less than two months old, since they were just released. Also, after buying a laptop, you can usually find a manufacture date somewhere on the body and/or on the battery itself. -
Jarhead thank you very much....
**i mean by question #2 in my last post that how i know that my lap top modern and will not charge battery completely while i install it in my lap while using it according to this quote:
