    Hello All.
New guy here and I really need a hand if you please.
I have a dell inspiron 2200 and it fell off the counter and broke the screen. I have no display at all but the computer part fires up and seems to work.
I'd like to plug the laptop into a regular monitor till I get a new screen but simply plugging in a monitor does not work. Can this be done without seeing the control panel to switch it to monitor.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    RK

Just plugging in the monitor is not gonna automatically work. You have to go into the properties and select the desktop to be either cloned or stretched to the external monitor.

Otherwise it will just use only the main laptop lcd as the default.

Look at your function keys. On my Asus G1, hitting "function" + "F8" will switch from the lcd to a monitor.

Yes, look at your blue Fn key, then hold that and press the F3 or whatever key that shows a LCD screen and a square monitor. It may be different on your Dell, so just take a picture of your keyboard and upload it here if you have trouble.

P.S: Many LCD monitors contain hazardous chemicals and should be disposed of properly if broken. That's the official word.
