im obsessing over whether to get most likely the Hitachi 5400rpm or the 7200rpm i know the 7200 is better, faster but please i need logical reasoning for answers here please dont just say 7200 because its "bigger, better 'faster'" Now I know that i dont do intense gaming most intense 3d game i play is sims 2 and cpu intensive stuff photohop / illustrator, now i know on my desktop sometimes when going to control panel all the icons sometimes take an extra sec or two to fully pop up or when going to my pictures i have lots of picture folders and that as well takes couple/few secs to fully load with the 5400RPM do that vs the 7200 most likely not? cuz i hate that :l my computer needs are not like major gaming so dont say the 7200 for that reason and im not like a hardcore programmer doing like autocad or 3dmax or whatever so dont say it for that eitherbtw price is about 90 dollars between the two. so almost 2x much... am i even going to really benefit from a 7200?

it's bigger, better, faster, while the other one is pure evil, so go get it!!!

j/k if you do photoshop (which is a highly intense hdd application) get the 7200rpm.. also yeah that icons appearing slowly is also due to the 5400 bottleneck.. but more ram could also help here (how much do you have atm?)

you say you hate load time but cant decide on wether to get a slower or faster hard drive? The answer is pretty obvious isnt it? The faster drive means less waiting.

also, you should get a 7200 because it's bigger, better, faster!
and.. it's your entrance ticket to the l33t club of bigger, better, faster harddrive owners -
7200rpm is Faster, Runs cooler because its seeking less, and its bigger. I have no other things to say. Its a huge difference between 54 and 72 k rpm hard drives.

You can imagine all the desktop hd either EIDE and SATA is 7200 rpm and 5400 rpm is no more, (10,000 also is better, but expensive)why? because 7200 rpm hd is "bigger, better, faster" without complaint in the market. I guess that the laptop's hd is going to 7200 rpm in the market in the future. For computer's technology, everything faster is better for saving the time(time is money), otherwise, the improvement will be stoppedd.

There's not a big difference between 5400 and 7200RPM drives in all honesty . . it's not going to be a "wow!" jump, just a "oh, that loaded a bit quicker than I'm used to . . " boost.
If the cost of a 7200RPM drive's price is nearly double that of the same-capacity 5400 version, then just go with the 5400. -
i hate you all bleh! hmm well atm i got a desktop crappy HDD and 3 year old dell celeron d processur and 512 of ram. the hdd is 7200rpm with 2mb buffer, even though the notebook would be 5400 its 2.5" vs 3.5" so that factors in as well i do believe? or maybe im wrong either way back to topic this hasnt help me decided i have like 3-4 people saying get it then 1 saying no lol ugh :/

since this is going to be partially a desktop replacement i went ahead and orderd the hitachi travelstar.... 7200RPM if it is seems slow im coming to kill you all!!! haha

I think you'll be happy with your decision. Since in your original post you mentioned how much you hated the extra second or two wait on loads. The extra 1800RPM should shave that by a little...but it's not going to be night and day.
I can't make up my mind please help :(
