I really don't understand why I cannot get a value for the CPU temperature. I tried Speedfan, CoreTemp and also CPU-Z.
It's not shown in BIOS either. I thought that's a feature which shoudl be supported by all computers. I got an emachines emd620-5777 with an AMD Athlon 2650e. Did anyone else encounter this problem before?

Try RealTemp and HWMonitor. If those don't work than maybe you have a CPU without a thermistor (so the temps cannot be read). Usually only ES processors don't have thermistors to measure temps.

the newer multicore AMD processors have a single shared thermal probe for the entire cpu. Core temp is reallu designed for Intel platforms. I use AMD Overdrive to adjust my AMD processor specifications, read temperatures, etc

I coulodn't get AMD Overdrive to work. It said I don't have a series7 processor. Maybe I downloaded the wrong version (AMD OverDriveā„¢ 3.0.2). RealTemp said my processor is not supported when I tried to install it.
But HWMonitor finally works. Wow, I almost gave up on that.
    Thanks a lot guys.

How did you get HWMonitor to work? I can't get it to read my 2650e.
AMD Overdrive won't work on a 6 series chipset, which the laptop has.
The requirements are a 7 series chipset.

it is dependent on the laptop manufacturer allowing the actual thingymajigy sensor thing to be read by the OS

People have swapped out the 2650e for 45W AM2 CPUs like the 4850e. Then the temps can be read no problem.
It seems all the software temp programs just can't read this new 2650e CPU yet. Of course it's not really new, it's been out for almost a year, and it's just another K8 so this should be easy.
