Uh....I wouldn't call that "obselete" and that was exactly 1 year ago it was top of the line then.

Overall this thing would smoke your HP.

SuperPi doesn't rate everything only processing speed.

It's a good laptop, and I believe Chaz returned it. Yes, Alienwares are overpriced.

Um, if you read the review you'd notice Chaz stated:

It is not a LAPtop. It is a desktop replacement. The purpose? To replace the desktop. Less cords, less mess.

no you can't. but that's not the point. Desktop replacements are for people who move from place to place but are never that very far from outlets. They are NOT for watching flicks on flights during business trips. They are for fragging everything that moves at 100 fps on max settings, whether at home, at a hotel or at the school library. Performance like this comes at a high price...and a year ago, this price was reasonable (for the enthusiast). Even today, I totally agree with everyone here this config will smoke your HP, and probably will still be able to run games a year from now fairly well (since they will most likely keep dx9 backwards compatible on most 3d games).

So please don't correlate the performance of notebooks just based on your assumptions of super-pi, because frankly that would be a monstrous lack of caution on your part.

It's a desktop replacement. It's not made to be carried around for everyday use.
I have a 17" laptop and I don't bring it with me everyday. Why do I have the laptop? Because I move every 4 months to a new location (and I travel a lot in between). I'm a student and I go on a work term every second term.
One term I'll be in school and the next I'm off to work somewhere. I then return to my school for a term and I'm off again after. Once I arrive at my destination I put my laptop on my desk and there it is for the next few months. Once the term is over I pack it up and leave. I wouldn't carry a desktop around like that.

The point of a desktop replacement is that you can bring it with you from one place to another. Once you arrive at a destination you put it on a desk. It's not made to be carried around everyday (though you can if you want a good work out).

You don't get why people buy those laptops? It depends on personal preference, life style and other things. I'd never get anything small than a 17". That's just me and I understand why people want smaller laptops. So try to understand why some people prefer and have a need for larger laptops.

I'd also much rather have that one year old machine over your HP.

I'm not even sure if you read the article anymore.
    His "proc" is
That was sick in the day, and is still extremely fast.

Another reason why it smokes your laptop? Probably the cooling is ten times more effective than HP laptops.

Ok, you're insulting the intelligence of a moderator of this forum. You obviously dont know much about technology either, since that alienware isnt as overpriced as it seems (Though it is overpriced), you dont seem to understand its purpose, you rely on superpi to figure out that your HP is superior in every way, and Athlon x2's arent as slow as you think.

Chaz used to buy random, popular, laptops and leave reviews of them to help other people in their decisions. Back when that thing was new, it was the BEST laptop you could get, period, end of story. Alienware got their hands on the clevo base unit and changed its appearance and then over charge you for it (though not as much as it seems.) The non Alienware versions of that same machine are much cheeper. It is designed as a desktop replacement unit, so its meant to be portable if necessary but mainly meant to sit on a desk replacing the full power of a desktop computer. So battery life was NOT on the minds of the designers or the people that would buy it. Superpi is a nice program, but its not the end all be all of figuring out one computer is better than another. That Alienware would kill your HP is pure performance. Athlon x2's and FX's used to be the fastest consumer processors in the world. And even today, when they're out dated, they're a lot faster than most review sites and many people out there would have you think. Just look at some non bias reviews. Its very hard to bottleneck them to this day. The only things that could do it are GeForce 8800's or a pair of 7950's in SLI or a pair of x1950's in crossfire.

Whos setup? I'm 100% sure you have a better processor than I do, but I bet my video card destroys yours.

Ha ha! These are elaborate term papers? You came in here displaying extreme ignorance. I had 3 choices here. I could have laughed at you and said "Go away n00b", I could have attempted to enlighten your ignorance, or I could have ignored you completly.

Obviously he's jealous that his notebook looks like a grey brick :p

edit: And price/budget is never an issue. Spending 4k won't make a difference in spending 1k, as long as the end buyer is happy with it.If they have the money and can afford it, who cares?

    Oh wait, you do...

Trolls need feeding, or else they won't feel accepted(not like they are anyways). It's like pigeons in cities, they are there, they are annoying, no one likes them, but they are there. Ignoring them can be done, but it doesn't do much as they will try and grab more attention(usually don't get any anywhere else).

Yes, I pity them sometimes :)

Core 2 Duo 2.33Ghz ooooooh omgz pwnt. Not saying that I have it, since I too have the T7200 but w/e.. Simply saying that no processor is top of the line as you assume your T7200 is.

Oh and at least spell the processor name right.

Easy guys, the dude's just trying to feel good about his purchase by bragging a little.

Chaz reviews a lot of laptops and then returns them, it's just for reviews on this site---reviewers get paid here :)

This particular Alienware seems to be of much better construction and cooling than most, although the price was at least a grand above a similarly configured Sager or Clevo from back then. It's a gamer's machine, so the CPU---while slower than the C2D T7200---isn't the most important factor as it will not bottleneck easily. And hey, I can dig the case too!

That HP of his is garbage. And I don't like how he insulted someone who has put a lot of damn hard-work into reviews, this forum, etc. Chaz knows more than you, "Bro". So keep it simple: Shut thy mouth.

I too would love to see his awesome specs. I shudder in fear at what they may be...

like gator said....much of the notebooks that chaz reviews are review units that we receive from a company for free and then return after a set amount of time. i'm gonna go ahead and close this thread. it really isn't contributing anything....except perhaps a laugh.
