Hello everyone
I have never had an SSD. I'm really interested in getting one though. Anyone has any recommendation?
Thanks

What threads from this subforum have you read so far? Have you checked out the recent Tom's Hardware article on best SSD's for each price point up to $400?
-
I have not. It is my first time here in this subforum (SSDs).

Newest SSDs: Intel 510 120GB, Intel 320 160GB or Crucial M4 128GB, although many people are complaining about freezes occuring with the M4. Have no idea what that is. I`d pick 510. Excellent ratings on newegg. 510 and M4 is SATA 3 (up to 600MB/s) and 320 is SATA 2 (300MB/s)
Older SSDs: Crucial C300 128GB or Samsung 470 128GB. Both of them are very reliable and fast. Not as fast as the newest SSDs though. -
Best SSDs For The Money: May 2011 : May Updates
Cloudfire's breakdown is quite good for starters but I always recommend poking around the other threads as opposed to just relying on responses in this one. There are lots of folks who have different experiences and there is a very good chance that they've already said their piece and won't repeat it. Also, I try not to just say, "buy the one that I got.". Even though I'm tempted too. -
Just pulled the trigger on the Intel 250GB 510 series. :/

I thought you only had $300 lol, what multiplied the budget by 200%

3 kingston 96gb v+100 in raid 0.

-
totally wouldn't. I was thinking out loud for myself haha.

i'm only using 51 gigs out of 148. i could easily knock 4 gigs off and make 47. haven't even installed office and my games yet. -
He meant "the ssd shouldn't be cheaper than $300". No idea what the upper limit was.

Altsein, I have a Sager 8150, and put a caddy in the ODD bay, put my hdd in that and installed a ssd in the hdd bay. I don't use an optical drive much, so that works for me, and I have an external for when I do. Of course if you use yours a lot, that might not work, but it is an option if you ever need to. I run my OS and programs off the ssd, storage goes on the hdd. Just a thought. And how do you like yours? I am very pleased with mine.

Crucial M4 would be my pick.
I have $300. Which SSD should i get?
