cause then I can upgrade my 5920G to something even better!!!![]()

THere will be MXM versions, but I think most will be MXM II.
-
hope so also...
they just need to be easier to find and buy. -
heck, if it wasn't for the fact that these new one's are coming out, I definitely would be interested in finding out if the 8700GT was compatible, I might have seriously investigated it!
does anybody know what the tdp is for the 8600M GT and what it is going to be for the new generation of cards, as I know that is gong to be a serious consideration and concern...
oh yeh, one one other thought. I am brewing an awesome cooling solution in my head for my Acer 5920G...one that should let me run higher powered CPU's and GPU's (if of course, the sockets can provide the power, as the cooling would no longer become an issue)...but because I have the 3 year Futureshop warranty on this laptop, I'd like to know if there's any way I can get another bottom panel...that way I can mod one for my idea and if it ever has to go into FS for warranty work, I can just put the stock one back on. -
MXM I = 20W
MXM II= 25W
MXM III= 35W
MXM-IV= 45W
An easy guess
9400= MXM I
9500/600= MXM II
9700= MXM II
9800= MXM-IV
You also have to remember that MXM is a port. The card itself is made from the notebook's manufacturer and in most case, MXM cards are model-specific -
JCMS, when you say model specific, do you refer to the shaping of the card or the cooler of the card? I ask, because I have a modification idea buzzing in my head for when my laptop is at home that would make it's onboard cooling solutions for CPU and GPU rather moot. not sure if it'll work...guess I should crack the back of this thing and take a look at what's under the hood, so to speak. I could be totally off my rocker once I see the insides, so I guess I'd better not go of halfc0ck3d....

*bump*

You can upgrade your video's card, but it's gonna be hard as hell. Also, you risk breaking something. IMHO, not worth it.
-
Depends on the laptop but different cooling is common. The C90S for exemple doesn't have a standard cooling. Coolings are also most of the time made for one card (i.e, a cooling made for a Go 7900GS might not be enough for a mobility X1900) -
what you say there is true, JCMS...but hopefully I will be able to acquire the proper coolers for the GPU's...as I said, I'm sorta hoping I can create a mod where the bottom panel is removed, so fitting in, isn't really an issue. :laugh:
I hope the ATi HD3xxx and nV GF 9xxx mobile series are MXMII...
