My 1.6 GHz Pentium m 725 400 MHz FSB is now running at 2.13 GHz with a 533 MHz FSB. It seems fine.... but now Prime95 will not run for long. I found that my Acer 1690 fan kicks in at about 68C-70C and as soon as the fan kicks in Prime95 fails. The Temp does drop back down to a steady 61C soon after the fan kicks in. I admit I did not apply fresh thermal paste (I know I just didn't have any at the moment) It seems to be running fine though and I don't feel that it is going to overheat but I will be picking up some fresh paste as soon as Fry's opens tomorrow!
UPdate**** - I was just visited by my old friend the BSOD! I clocked it back to 1.6 GHz and found that the temp difference while running prime95 is only 5C cooler but Prime does now run without errors. I am going to try again tomorrow with some fresh paste as the amount on there right now it pretty sad looking.

It is to do with voltages, the CPU is not getting enough power to run at that clock speed, it is VERY risky to play with voltages, especially in laptops, as heat increases, and having a voltage too high will fry the CPU.

In order to fry a cpu you need 1.65V or 1.7v
I have fry many cpu's in my day.
Athlon 64 3000+
P4 540
Tons.
I just overclocked my pentium m 725.....but!
