I know people say that there is no such thing as a stupid question...but I think I may have it...and i have tried to find the answer...but maybe I'm googletarded.

The Laptop I'm looking at doesnt have a DVI output. What would I use a DVI port for? And if it for something important, are there any cables whichcan transform one of the ports the laptop does have, into a DVI output port?
    The does have:

    - USB 2.0
    - Fire wire
    - VGA port
    - S-video port
    - Modem jack
    - Ethernet jack

It also doesnt have a PCMCIA port. What is this used for? Nothing important I hope.

    Thanks in advance...

A DVI port is similar to a VGA port, which you have. Both are used to connect your laptop to an external display. VGA is the older analog input. DVI is newer, and its digital so it has better image quality then VGA. But VGA still isnt bad, and any display that has a DVI port will also have a VGA port so you dont have to worry about it.

A DVI port is a monitor port - the white rectangular connector you see on the back of some video cards. The main difference between DVI and VGA is that DVI sends a pure digital signal to the monitor, while the VGA port is analog. Another thing about DVI is that it can send High-Definition video to a TV or other device. VGA can't do that. Overall, most users won't see the difference between VGA and DVI.
And of course, if you aren't hooking up any monitors, you don't need to worry about it at all - even if you are, most people won't see the difference anyway as sheff and I stated. If you simply have to get a laptop with DVI, that will isolate your choices to a handful (probably less than ten models total, all sizes).

No i dont have to have a DVI port...however...i will be using it for church presentations etc and so would like to hook it up to a data projector. But I'm confident that it has a VGA port...so no problems...

    thanks guys...quick and easy.
