I might as well make a thread of it. I am about to buy the Crucial M4 64GB for my old Asus. What can I expect?

Well I have the notebook in my sig and I want to know how much using sata 2 will hold me back.

I am considering the M4 because my old ST9320423AS is freezing.

Should I have bought a cheaper/slower sata 2 SSD with more space on it,

since I won't be able to take advantage of the M4's full speed?

I put a C300 in an older Dell laptop and it was awesome. Day and night difference is what you can expect. As for the SATA (2) 3GB/s vs. SATA (3) 6GB/s, it's up to you. I woulda used a 2 just because cost to beneift ratio. The 3's are plenty fast for me.

the M4 cost me $55 so it is exactly the same cost. On a separate topic what does this mean

    Standard : ATA8-ACS - SATA II
Supported mode : UDMA Mode 6
Current mode : UDMA Mode 7

Both Sata III and mSata are going to be usable in future lappys / Ultras, so even if if doesn't use the full capability, it can be used later if you upgrade. Great speeds and price.

I agree but my speeds suck,
Also how can I be sure my hard drive is running at the fastest possible bandwidth because its in 1.5GB's mode and my notebook was manufactured in 2009 and I hope that there is a way to get it on the 3.0GBs setting

EDIT: Fixed by messing with the BIOS now reporting 1192 in passmark (169/104/57) its still not very good but I don't care
