The reason for this is because I don't have much room on my desk. I know Sony makes desktops that have a monitor with that design, but I just want to buy it separately. Does anyone else know of monitors that have space saving designs? Thanks in advance.

For me the problem with normal flat screen monitors is that the base is too large, causing the actual monitor to be too close to my eyes.

You mean something like this : ?

Thats a DELL Crystal 22" Wide screen monitor. However it costs a whooping $999 (almost 4 times a regular 22" would cost)

Anything similar would also cost at least twice a regular LCD of that size, therefore I think it is a waste of money. I don't think the base of a regular monitor would take 5~10 cm more than DELL crystal or other similar "thin" designs. My 22"'s base is only extending about 8cm from the back and about 5com on the front, which I think fairly ok. Mind you mine has a relatively large base, I'm sure you can find regular monitor with a relatively small base, without paying through the roof for something like above.

cant you use a standard LCD and just use a wallmount?
Wallmounts are like $50 and they will lie pretty close to the wall.
You just have to unscrew the stock stand which comes with the lcd, and fit it to the wallmount. It would teke absolutely no desk space up because it wouldnt have to lie on the desk.

agreed, and if you don't have something to mount to, you can try using a desk mount LCD arm too. maybe something like this?
