I just won this nice laptop...
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250175533893&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=015

    item# 250175533893

    ProStar AirBook D47u

The problem is it has no hard drive or caddy. I can get a hard drive cheap, but ive googled 100s of pages, ebay, and the company website for information on obtaining a hard drive caddy for this machine at a reasonable price. I'm not gonna pay $50 - $100 for a piece of metal and plastic. Does anyone know a good way to get a working hard drive caddy for this machine? Can some one point me to something. Thanks

It looks like you've done all that is possible. If all the prices are around that mark, it looks like you're just going to have to shell out that much money.

Maybe try and make one? I don't know exactly how it looks but when u say "a piece of metal and plastic" it doesn't seem too advanced. :p

I found a few places on google for about $60 but they dont even have the part in stock. The model is D47u for my laptop. I don't know what to do. The caddy isnt even much of a concern, its this hard drive cable they use. I haven no idea where to find this... I have this beautiful laptop I'll never be able to use :( Anyone know where to get this part?

The caddy and adapter. But thats $100!!!

Judging by the looks of the adapter. Is that any standard conversion? I know the one end is the 2" laptop ide but what is that other end? Is that something standard, if so I could get this a lot cheaper. Or is this some kinda proprietary plug... Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks

I was in this situation with my laptop that i got from a friend of a friend, it go's that way... they take the hard drive and forget to leave that connector / adapter / ribbon cable thing (that has no official name BTW) so try ANY AND ALL:mad: names you can think of in the searches. Thats the only way after a week of searching i found it on a french ebay page, also in my search i found that some other laptops used the same... connector / adapter / ribbon cable thing... that my laptop needed so when i finally found it... it was for a different model. There are 5 or 6 sites that sell these things but none of them had what i needed, ebay is sometimes the only place to look.

Well I think I found a few people in a bunch of weird places around the world that have the caddy, but I'm asking them on the side if they have that adapter too. I mean if they have the caddy, they gotta have the adapter. In that case I'll most likely be able to snag it for around $30 shipped hehe.
