My FS570 has 100GB, but it is 4200rpm 2MB cache.. what a pain and it's the bottleneck for the laptop now....

Can u guys please recommend any good hard disk with good price? I need at least 80GB and I check 80GB 7200rpm is still too expensive.

    1. If I upgrade to 80GB 5400rpm.. will I see "significant" performance?

    2. Will 8MB cache 16MB cache helps a lot and improve the performance significantly as well?

    3. I need something quiet (not noisy). Hitachi/Toshiba/Samsung?

If not, I'll just stay with current drive and waiting 7200rpm's price lower.

    Any advices??

    1. The gain is still pretty good with 5400RPM. Actually the speed increase from 4200 to 5400 is more than 5400 to 7200.

    2. there is practically no difference in performance when going from 8mb to 16mb

    3. i have a hitachi and a toshiba, they both are pretty silent. 2.5" drives tend to be silent anyway!

Not sure if 7200RPMs will be getting cheaper soon, but if they are, it might be worth the wait.

The larger cache generally helps more with larger files. I've noticed the Hitachi 7200s are a little noisier than others and they do run warmer if that is an issue.
