    By gen3, I assume you mean SATA6G capable model with high seq read/write.

    Even the Intel 320 Series (160GB and higher) is a 'gen3' model to me.

    The Intel 510 Series 250GB model is the only SATA3 SSD that I would trust in my systems (and the performance jump is huge from anything before it - mechanical or solid state).

    The 320 doesn't seem to have too much performance difference from x25m though given its current state, I would count it out anyway.

    I was thinking more gen 2 to 3 I guess. Yes there are differences, I definitely agree more than 1s in many cases (opening an app, maybe only 1s sure). I notice the difference between my Vertex 2 (now that I reinstalled Windows and got the performance back) and my M4, but the difference in most cases is minor. Certain things, yes, more of a difference but not drastic. Looking back the question was about an X25 versus gen 3. Well, I have no experience with the early SSDs, but I agree there were major gains with last years' drives.
