I recently got an Acer Aspire 7720-4428, and I really have to say Acer SUCKS.

Well I have opened the laptop and the cpu isn't built into the motherboard so I really want to upgrade it. The CPU is a Intel Pentium dual-core processor T2310. The socket on the inside says 478 and some other stuff but I am not sure. I checked on google and I can't find any accurate results for options that I can upgrade to but I REALLY NEED to so please help me.

    Bus speed is 533 mHz
    CPU Speed is 1.46 Ghz
L2 Cache Size is 1 MB
    Bus/Core Ration is 11
    sSpec # SLAEC.

You picked that computer, it's not necessarily that acer sucks. They offer different options, this is one on the lower end of the spectrum.

I'm not sure which processors you can upgrade to, but don't be expecting a P8400 or anything... What is you need for a more powerful processor? upping RAM will more often than not make a huge increase in performance.

I didnt pick it. My parents got it for me for christmas probably wouldnt have been my choice. However I still will argue that Acer sucks because it comes with proloaded bloatware that slows down the machine (40%+ram at desktop running nothing) and if you remove it the sound driver messes up. also they dont include a disc with drivers on it and the site sucks so yea.

I have already ordered ram and I want a new cpu because the computer is kinda slow.

You've got a GL960 in that Acer. Officially, the GL960 only supports Socket P Celerons and Pentium Dual-Cores, but most people have been able to upgrade their GL960 machines to 667MHz FSB and 800MHz FSB C2D processors.

Long story short: you will very likely be able to use a 667MHz FSB Socket P C2D. You will somewhat likely be able to use a 800MHz FSB Socket P C2D. Both are not absolutely guaranteed to work, though; to be safe you should see if you can find what others have successfully used in this machine, or stick with Pentium Dual-Cores.

The T2130 isn't a bad processor, though; it should suffice for day to day work... have you considered upgrading your memory first? Maybe doing a clean install of your OS?

Thanks Commander Wolf. Could you recommend a C2D processor that would work. Wont I have to Increase the FSB? I just clean installed in and I am sure it is just my memory but I am running vista and I prefer to have the computer as fast as I can get it. Because now that I am upgrading I don't want to get a low upgrade to find out it can be a lot better later.

If the upgrade actually works, your chipset will raise the FSB on its own when appropriate. You don't actually have to do anything. Processors in the T5xxx series are the most likely to work, but like I said, due to the unsupported nature of these GL960 upgrades, I'd recommend searching to see what others have successfully used in these machines and just use those chips.
