    hello
i just found this site on a local computer :D

i have a laptop. i have only 3GB of ram. i need more, i do a lot of photoshop. i want 8gb of ram. i dont know what chipset i have and i cant check before 3 days. i have 1066mhz cpu, i did not find any 1066mhz ddr2 memory, i belive they do not exist. or do they?

i read somewhere, in this forum that even 800mhz ddr3 ram wont run in 800mhz but go down to 677mhz. is that true?

i love my laptop, and dont want to change it. but in same therad that i read above it also said cpu was only in 800mhz. is that true?

    anyway, i found this kit:
    Corsair Value DDR2 SO-DIMM PC6400 8GBKit w/two matched Value Select 4GB CL5
    VS8GSDSKIT800D2

i only like g.skill ram, but i only found this. did g.skill ever made ddr2 800mhz or 1066mhz ram? if so, ill buy that! this case is not in hurry, im away from homecountry untill next week. but after that it is gonna be done.

i like this forum, good people helping other

CPU FSB has nothing to do with RAM type. It all depends on how old your laptop is or at least give us the model to look up.

It uses DDR2-800, up to 8 GB. But it seems like you already knew that.

I highly doubt you need 8 GB of memory. Unless you're editing absolutely gigantic images, you'd be better off saving your money.

hi. thanks you. the main reason why i go for 8gb is that i do some gaming also. i have 9600 gt that uses 2gb (1791 MB) of my ram. that is because turbocache kick. so when i play games and so 2 goes for my 9600 then i have 6 left for my system. my loaded os takes about 1.2-1.4gb. did you understand? ram is also cheap. but i cant find g.skill. you never ever seen g.skill 800 mhz 4gb ram? also 800 is fastest ram for ddr2 laptop?

If you really want, I can buy some RAM, apply a GSkill sticker and ship it to you. I charge $50/hour + parts/shipping.

Faster RAM hardly yields any noticeable gains over "slower" RAM. Just get the most you can from a reputable brand (Crucial, Corsair, Patriot, GSkill, Kingston). Sometimes there is a price premium. It isn't worth it. Even during rendering, faster RAM might get you 3 seconds faster. Not worth it.

    it looks like it will be very hard to find those as even newegg says;
Deactivated. This item is currently out of stock and it may or may not be restocked.

i have also read the comments, manny says it is problematic with hp laptops.

Is this true even for brands that are not that well-known? I've been comparing memory (2 GB DDR2-800 SODIMM) available in local shops and found out that the "Elixir" brand (made by Nanya - Elixir Memory) is the cheapest. Its timings are 5-5-5-18. The price is ₱1200 ~ $27.70. Is it worth it?

For comparison, Kingston and Transcend at the same specs (except timing, which I haven't checked) range from ₱1400 to ₱1500 ~ $32.31 to $34.62

The memory chips themselves come out of the same factories.

What you pay extra for with Kingston, Corsair etc is largely the customer service.

The above post is true BUT there is lower binned (essentially lower quality) DRAM chips. However as they still function normally, they are sold off to OEMs, companies like ADATA for cheaper than higher/highest binned RAM (usually sold off to companies like Corsair, Patriot, Kingston). For normal usage it really doesn't matter, more RAM is more beneficial than higher end memory. And as it's been stated, buy from a company who has a good track record for customer service/RMA service.
