Hey guys, I've been on the market to get a decent laptop that can handle After Effects decently and I thought this would be a good idea:

Thought I'd outfit it with the basics:
Hitachi 7k320
2 Corsair 2GB
and for the processor - I'm really not sure.
I don't know if it must be a 1066MHz FSB proc or if this barebone will also accept an 800MHz FSB one.. which is more like my budget. Would I risk damage to the notebook if I throw in the 800MHz?
I'm trying to keep this under $800 but I realize that's not really happening.
How much difference is there between an 800MHz FSB and a 1066MHz FSB proc for video editing?
Anyways, when it comes to more intense layering and perhaps a little 3D editing and rendering in After Effects - is this barebone notebook even a good idea?
Perhaps you know a better way to spend my $700-$800 budget on. Any suggestions?

Let's see:
JHL90:~460
New P8400 off ebay:~160
Hitachi 7k320:~80
G-Skill 2x2GB DDR2 800 kit: ~40
Grand total: $740
That is under $800. And it will do whatever you want it do without fuss. And yes it can can take T7xxx and T9xxx CPUs without any problem. -
jackluo923 Notebook Virtuoso
320GB hdd cost like $50 now
4gigs of ram is about $30.
so grand total should be around $700 -
thanks Ayle, I'll scour eBay again!
I wonder if it automatically supports Meroms though too... do you know? -
Yeah it support T7xxx series as well but since it's a Montevina notebook you might as well take advantage of the 1066mhz bus speed and the slightly lower power consuption of the Pxxx series CPUs.

that's right, btw, I found a $60 7k320 and a $100 P8300 on Ebay! thanks.

Online shopping truly is one of mankind greatest gift since he invented the internet.. So many online deals are available for computer components online with such great prices.

everything costs in $'s what it does in £'s over here. Is this only now that the exchange rate has dropped....
are you sure it's a p8300?
no such model on the wikipedia page

t9400s are quite a bit cheaper on ebay than r9300s. i think id want to go for one of them... i didnt have santa rosa... seriously up the clock and double the l2 cache for probably not many $s.
If you cant find one cheap you can always upgrade later.
presumably this can handle a q9300? -
yeah, I've actually decided to go with the T9400. and yes, P8300 and P8350 exist, though they're not as well known.
I want your barebone notebook spec ideas!
