My ol' CL56 is good and in need or replacement but that is several months away. Being my first laptop it is battle damaged something fierce. All 3 USB ports are busted and require a new mobo to fix (not worth it). For the past year I have used a PCMCIA usb card for USB needs but now my PCMCIA card port appears to be broken (power no going to the card/new card). It doesnt have bluetooth either. The only viable option I can think of is using my firewire port but I dont know what I could do with it. Ideally there would be a USB hub that connects via firewire but I do think those exist. WIll I just ahve to tough it out for a few months? Thanks.

Unfortunately, I think you've finally ran out of options for USB. Good luck!

there is a firewire to usb if you want. yes, that do exist.
ur really bashed around ur laptop didnt ya?i hate to be ur notebook
dont have anything plug into ur usb or expresscard port etc, while transporting it; even for a short distance like across the room; to minimise the risk of damage.

Honestly, it`s time for an upgrade...

if you are selling, your laptop, please let me know. I need a Compal CL-56 motherboard.
One with a broken USB hub is better than one which doesnt work at all.
It seems as if the only thing you can do is get a cheap firewire to usb adaptor.

my laptop has a separate card attached to the mobo which has 2 USB ports, ethernet and AC-in jack....i busted up the pin inside my AC-in jack and I just changed that card....and it worked perfectly..!!
if your motherboard has a similar design too, you may still have a chance....
Good Luck..!! -

I'll look into it. I'm definately getting a new laptop but will be waiting for a few months (around august) for the full centrino 2 designation and for reviews of the new montevina laptops to get some initial feedback. And Ill definately consider selling it K-Tron but first priority will to be to my friend if he wants to purchase it.
I'm out of functional USB ports? Have I any options?
