    I just recently bought a working/for repair T42.

As far as the hard drive goes, what interface will work? I found people saying different interfaces will work like: ATA, PATA, IDE, and EIDE. And I'm thinking about getting a 160GB (or more) drive, I need XP SP2 to use the whole capacity, right?

They're all telling you the same thing: a SATA (Serial ATA) drive will not work.

You don't need any specific flavour of XP to use the whole capacity, but you may need to partition the drive to be able to install XP on it (this would be a BIOS limitation, not an O/S limit).

It is IDE/PATA. Don't know if your BIOS will support such sizes. I tried a 320 GB PATA drive I had lying around in my D600 and something in the BIOS prevent it from seeing the whole drive, only saw 160GB. Honestly business professionals don't need a huge amount of space, XP Professional hardly takes up that much space.
