    Hi All

    Wonder if anyone can help...

I have an IBM X30 and my motherboard recently died on me. I have found someone who can supply me with a motherboard but there is a slight catch...

The current motherboard on my laptop has a security chip and the motherboard I might be buying does not...

If I get the motherboard and add my security chip to it will it work ???

Or what will happen if I get the replacement motherboard and do not install a security chip, will my laptop still work?

Not too sure what the job of the security is :( so any help or advise will be appreciated...

    Thanks,
    Besh.

If you mean TPM ,no, the security chip will just work on that motherboard.
Please explain the problem, you might be able to recover from that problem. It might not be even a damaged motherboard.
The chip can encode anything, if you have chosen to protect the HDD with it, i'm not sure what you can do to decode the data if the mobo is really dead.
But if you have not asked the TPM to do this, you shouldn't have any problems.

    Hi mate,

The motherboard has died on me, the laptop does not start up, i have checked the componants and they are working fine, the only thing i can point to is the motherboard.

I have found someone who can provide a motherboard for me but the motherboard he has does not have a security chip... Im not really bother about the chip i just want to make sure that the thing will work in my laptop.

    does this make sense ?

    Thanks for your responce...
