    Dear All,

Realistically, how much difference there is in response time between an IPS 120hz vs TN 120hz laptop panel? I have spotted the Omen 17 series with the FHD IPS Gsync120hz which looks ideal for genera use and most fps games (overwatch, cs) however the review says that its response time its quite high.

My question is, how noticeable would the difference between a TN and IPS panel both 120hz for someone who has never experienced 120hz before? I mean would the difference in-game be considerate that someone with an untrained eye would see it? Would there be ghosting etc? Would there be considerate difference in smoothness?
As everyone is praising IPS for their colours etc., I would prefer if I ended up with an IPS 120hz laptop instead of a TN if the difference isn't night a day.

My current laptop is a six year old, dell xps l702x so you get the idea that I am a bit clueless.

    Thank you in advance.

Response time is, mostly, a marketing gimmick. I've gamed on 5ms screens and on 30ms screens - I cannot, for the life of me, notice a difference.

Well, it depends on the person viewing it, for the most part, though when the exact things to look for are pointed out they can be seen by everyone, but IDK if that is a good thing to do or not... ignorance is bliss as they say :)

Generally the slower to refresh the image the screen is, the more "blurring" or "ghosting" will be experienced, and that blurring is often interpreted as by the mind as "fuzzy", "not sharp", or "soft".

You need the display to be done drawing a new screen, or 100% refresh at the refresh rate in order to get the sharpest image.

Otherwise the image(s) will appear to shift slightly when displaying a new image, while still displaying the previous image (whole or part) causing that ghosting effect.

IPS screens are getting faster, and Asus has put out 17.3" and 15.6" 144hz fast response IPS - like display's.

The previous IPS 120hz's which quickly were rejected for being too slow and were pulled from the market over a year ago were clearly too slow on redraw and no one wanted them after viewing them.

The current TN panels for 120hz are great, but the side angle viewing and up / down viewing is bad / typical TN, while the colors have been great.

I wouldn't worry about getting a slow response panel these days, but I would recommend viewing them in person before buying, there's just no way to predict how a particular individual will react to the specific anomalies of a display.

There is a lot of pixel blur at anything over 10ms, which is easily noticeable in fast paced games. In Somewhat slower single player games, its not as noticeable.

Thank you all for your responses. Is there any particular laptop with a very fast ips screen? As if the lowest response in comparison to the others?
