I'm looking to replace the screen in my np8660/m860tu... Are there any IPS panels that will work?

The 4:3 ThinkPad T60 was the 15" notebook to use an IPS LCD until the 8540w came along, but that's 16:9. I'd say it's not looking good.

The WUXGA screen I use now is acceptable,(came from a inspiron/XPS 9100 made it 2004) but it needs a new backlight and I really don't want to spend 3hrs to do it, to make sure its done right...

I think Dell did use some IPS screen back in the Pentium M days, but it was more for your business class notebooks. A good way to tell if your screen is IPS is to push back the screen so you're looking at if off-center. If the colors invert, it's not IPS. If it looks the same, it probably is IPS, but it's been a long time. My memory may be failing me.

I don't think they had any IPS from Pentium M days. Dell's D800/D810 was just a standard 16:10 15.4" CCFL LCD. Dell's D600/D610 was a 4:3 14" CCFL LCD. Anyways if Dell did have IPS it would be inferior to IBM's Flexview screens..

I haven't found any IPS 16:10 panels smaller than 20in

(they seem to be Dell's only source of IPS panels - not to mention the partnership they announced a while back in support of IPS and 16:9, iirc).

I could have swore they did, but it wasn't a wide screen as I think the resolution was 1600x1200.

Hrm okay so Dell offered 4:3 IPS UXGA screens for like the Inspiron 8200 line, called the enhanced UXGA. Don't know if they are anywhere comparable to the 15" FlexView screens, but still doesn't qualify as 16:10.

So, no 15.4 IPS eh? That's sad
I'm looking for a screen upgrade, and I'm checking all of the possible options. So far I narrowed it to:
1440x900
LP154WP1-TLA2 - glossy
LTN154X7-L03 - matte
1680x1050
LP154WE2-TLA3 - glossy
B154SW01 VB - glossy
N154Z3-L03 - matte
For me 1920x1200 is over the top for a 15.4" screen. Any recommendations?
IPS 15.4 16:10 screen?
