:) Greeting to all you computer techs out there.

This is the very first IBM notebook i've ever repaired in my shop.
Was a pain removing all the screws & mobo from chassis to repair a no power issue.
Found out it was the battery at fault causing the no power issue.
Anyway i'm at a point now trying to get the system to boot to the hdd & it gives me one of two error messages.
 One's is "No OS Found" after it gives me the PXE-E61 In the setup menu in bios launch.
:D I did find one problem when I was reinstalling everything back together though.
On the upper L. corner when I had the keyboard & bezel removed & reinstalling all the hardware back together there was one small cable I could not find where it plugged in at & it has that round pin.
The small cable end pin looks just like one of the wireless cables you plug into the wireless mini card but I have both of them already plugged in to the card.
Besides it too short to go that far anyway.
This cable is right above the Modem Daughter Card (MDC-2).
I searched endlessly where it might go & came up with nothing.
Thought maybe it might plug into that Modem Daughter Card but it had no place to plug it in to.
The small flat pin cable is plugged into the Modem Daughter Card.
    That much I do know!
The PDF manual for this IBM does not show this small cable anywhere.
I was taking the whole system apart anyway to clean up from all the dust & also thought it might be the mobo at fault but it was fine.
It merely was the main battery causing it.
    That's my theory anyway.
Have one on the way to see if it will fix the proble,
I can get the sytem to boot now but only to the bios to set it all back to default.
    Goes no further than that.
My next step now is to connect the hdd (out of the chassis) to my usb external power device to see if it's actually a hdd issue or the cable issue that's keeping me from booting to the OS.
I don't believe unless i'm mistaken this notebook has a recovery partician like the HP's do.

:) Any help would be greatful & sorry for the long write.
My client really needs this notebook back as soon as possible.

    Thank's! :)
    David
I also replaced the cmos battery when I was in there.
I may later upload a pic of that cable if it might help.

Check the boot order in the BIOS, the PXE error means the computer is trying to boot from the network. Actually, you may want to check the BIOS settings anyways because when you replaced the CMOS battery the previous settings would have been lost.

I'm not sure what the cable is, my wild guess is that it may a bluetooth antenna. If the computer doesn't have bluetooth, then just tape up the connector so it won't short anything.

    Thank's for the tips!
I found the problem with the "No OS Found" message.
It was the hdd ide connector misaligned completely from some screws inside that come in from the bottom not secured well enough causing the connector to be misaligned.
You were correct on the cable issue.
It had no bluetooth installed so I did as you told me securing it under the module out of site away from the mobo circuitry so it wouldn't try to short anything out.
The os still won't load but does load the drivers & then goes right back to the black setup screen.
The media drive message went away.
Gees!! I thought i might have somehow crashed his hdd.
I hooked it up to my external usb device just to see if it was the hdd before I checked the chassis out & it loaded all the files.
Now I have to figure out why the files load only then goes back to the black screen setup options.
    Thank's alot!

    Thank's jimbob83 for your support!
All's well now & in the process now installing the Windows updates & Antivirus program which it had no AV what so ever, just Windows Defender.
Waiting for the new battery & new screws then i'll see if the battery fixes the no power issue it had before.
A great weekend for you I hope!

Anyone know where I can search for the IBM Thinkpad R52 standalone charger cables in a assorted pack?
I have a external charger that has the varible voltages settings & just need the cables that plug into the battery thats out of the laptop.
I need the assorted model cables in a kit for all my testing of laptop batteries & charging them taken out of the laptops.
The battery in this IBM R52 model like I mentioned earlier is believed to be bad I suppose.
I'm not reinstalling the original battery back in it cause i'm worried it might shut it down again like it did before & cause it to have no power again without first verifying its the battery for sure without getting one of those cable kits & testing it first.
The IBM is running fine now as long as I keep the battery out of it.
Thank's for any comments or help in this matter.
    One other thing!

You're welcome! Glad you got it sorted.

Can't help with the standalone battery charger I'm afraid. I didn't even know such things existed, but I can see how incredibly useful it would be.
