    Hello,

I hope you guys can help.

So my kid wants an oculus rift and im looking at the minimum specs and it says as a minimum it needs a AMD Ryzen 3 1200. The kid has a 7th Gen A10 9700 APU

So looking at the two CPU side by side the kid’s base clock is 3.5GHz quad core, whereas the minimum recommended Ryzen 3 has a base clock of 3.1Ghz quad core. So that says to me that the kid’s CPU is “better”, however looking at benchmarking side by sides, the Ryzen 3 performs better so im a little confused as to whether the kid’s cpu is considered better than a ryzen 3 or not..

    You guys have any opinion?

The APU is still based on Piledriver/Bulldozer arch, its a pretty crappy arch, and a Ryzen sure kicks it ass, even with much lower clocks, and if you want VR you will need a dedicated GPU, so, drop the APU and get a better CPU, what is the current motherboard so we can help you about what CPU's can it run.

So for clarification: I can use the existing Motherboard with a new Ryzen 5 CPU, but it needs a BIOS update to support it?

Cheers for you help! Things were so much simpler when I was younger.. All I needed to do was check if it was socket 7 then the Mhz of the processor was the deciding factor lol
