Simple question: Has anyone ever tried using say the screen off of a Thinkpad T510 (1920x1080) to replace the Ideapad stock screen (1366x768)? I've searched around a bit, but I can't even find anyone asking this question before.
I've decided I may want 1920x1080 when I'm mobile after all, not just at home hooked up to an external monitor, but I've already gotten my Z575 and I'm quite happy with it otherwise.

I have a Z575 and at face value it doesn't seem possible to me. It is a nice notebook though.

So far I can tell it's a LTN156AT16-L01, which is LED backlight and 40-pin connector, same as the listed screens for W510/W520/T510, and of course they're 13.6"x7.6" for a 15.6". So the only thing that doesn't seem to match is the only thing I want to change-the resolution.
Would still like to know if anyone's tried this before I spend money on it; I'd at least like to know it won't break anything. Sent an email off to one of the laptop screen, uh, resellers, so hope to hear something back Monday I guess.
And yes, it's a very nice notebook. Especially for what I spent on it. -
You will need to make sure that the cable is dual-channel LVDS and not single-channel LVDS.
Dual-channel 40-pin LVDS cables will have all 40 pins and all 40 copper traces or wires. Checking the latter is often more difficult though, but sometimes you can peel back the insulation leading up to the connector and count the wires. -
Thanks for the advice.
I haven't popped it open to look, and I'm not sure what you've suggested is something I'd be comfortable with. I found the part number, if that helps (31049297), but I can't find anything on it.
Surprisingly enough, one of the reps on the screen site got back to me already; he says Lenovo didn't make a compatible cable for WUXGA. Is the cable something that could be replaced as well, or is that too complex to bother with? -
look at Lenovo Hardware Maintenance Manual for your model (pdf file).
there's list of compatible panels U can use
LTN156AT16-L01 is quite good HD panel imho
