Most users with SSDs install the IRST drivers as they believe they offer a slightly better performance BS the native MSAHCI driver, while that may be true in certain cases (not on my Samsung 840 EVO), you may or may not TRIM functionality which will hurt your SSD's performance in the long run.

What most people do is run the TRIM check command in a DOS command prompt:

    Code:
    [B]fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify[/B]
It will give you one of two results, either a 0 or a 1. A zero indicates that TRIM is enabled correctly, a one means that it is not.

That will tell you if the TRIM command was sent successfully or not, but that's only HALF the story, we need to check if the TRIM command ACTUALLY reached the drive not only if the TRIM command was sent or not...

So how can one really verify if TRIM is working?

Please read this article: TRIMcheck: Does Your SSD Really have TRIM Working? | The SSD Review

    trimcheck Download

Just copy the file to the drive you want to test, then right click on it and choose " Run As Administrator"

When it launches, press Enter on your keyboard to have it create a file and delete it. then close the Window.

Wait for about 1 minute, then run it again and press Enter to do another test and see the result!

LOL MaXimus. You know what? I'm going to vote for the next candidate that promises to increase funding for more beds in psychiatric facilities.

I forget offhand what the DSM says about what you got. Obsessive... something or the other. I don't know. Anyway, yeah. :)

Interesting info, though. But rulez iz rulez. Can't have a gazillion accounts. So gotta ban ya, again.

See you soon, I'm sure... ya nut.

Trimcheck thinks TRIM is working on my EVO mSATA (without Intel RST).

So, was the OP's info correct? I just got a machine with an SSD so this TRIM and over provisioning and things like that are new to me. Loving the speed though.

That program looks OK, at least I used it once year ago. I think he was banned for multiple accounts, not for what he wrote here :)

I did a clean install of Win8.1 the other day, and i just ran the trim-check and it said that trim was not working to my surprise as i have done clean installs before and trim was enabled, i wonder why it was not enabled during the clean-install this time, i ran the windows trim check "fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify" and it came up with 1 which means the trim is not enabled, so i had to manually enable trim with this command "fsutil behavior set DisableDeleteNotify 0"

    Thanks

    John.

I just got a new Samsung 840EVO 250GB. Cloned it from my 120GB 840PRO and double checked trim was still enabled. It was.

I am rather impressed with Samsung's software for these drives. The clone operation took about 40 minutes (damn you USB2), and went off without a hitch.

Now what to do with the 120GB SSD.....

I found a source the ultrabay hdd caddy and soft rim trackpoint for $15.

Now I just need an extended battery. But that's off target for this thread.

The OP is correct that the fsutil command that many people use to check if TRIM is working is as close to useless as it gets. In fact, I'm not sure if that command will ever indicate TRIM not working, no matter on what machine (HD or SSD) you check. I have seen some extensive discussion of the utility the OP has linked to, and the bottom line seems to be that it gives you a fairly reliable test, in the sense that, if it indicates that TRIM is working, you can be certain it is. On the other hand, if it indicates non-working TRIM, there is a chance of this being a false negative, but from what I have seen that chance is very small, for standard (non-RAID) configurations. So, in your case, it's indeed likely that TRIM is not working, for whatever reason.

P.S.: Did you re-check after running the fsutil command?
