Hi everyone, i have a question that seem quite impossible to solve.
Is it possible to connect a 1.8" LIF hard drive to a Usb external box that use a ZIF cable?
This is the hard disk: http://pricespy.co.uk/product.php?e=174977
Please help!

Sure, that drive uses a regular PATA/IDE interface. To connect to usb you need:
Or, instead of 2., you could use an enclosure/box, which is slightly more expensive and doesn't support SATA as well. Mind that an enclosure is superfluous; drive runs fine without a container. -
Thank you for the reply!
My doubts are slightly different though, and they're related to the differences between the ZIF and the LIF connectors.
My hard disk tech specs do report a LIF connection, that should be thicker compared to the ZIF one.
So i'm wondering if i can connect my hard disk to an enclosure (i know they're more expensive but i need one) that uses a ZIF cable.
Do you think that this enclosure could work for my needs?

Probably not without some work, since the connection might be a bit loose (hence the 1.; it has both types of cable). Could try to cut a piece of plastic to size and wedge it between cable and connector on the drive. Or get that amazon drive and a LIF->ZIF cable. Piece of plastic's just as fine, though.

The plastic piece could be a very good idea, maybe a piece or two of electrical tape on the cable could "fill" the missing thickness but ...
are you sure that the cable do have contacts only on one side? -
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Doesn't matter; your drive features connecting pins on both sides of its connector. Could place plastic on either side and it'll work; it still has the standard 40 pins connecting the device, not 80, all of a sudden.
Impossible question on hard drive connection :D
